Hello,I've come down with covid after almost 3 years of avoiding it! I'm due my monthly pegasys injection today. Am waiting to hear from Guys and Thomas's team if ok to take it.
I didn't test positive on lateral flow tests until my symptoms were getting better. I spoke to antiviral NHS team doctor and he didn't think I needed to take antivirals, as I was getting better.
What are other people's experiences with taking pegasys while having covid?
Also with recovery? Is there a way of avoiding long covid?
Also I had my 4th vaccination 6 months ago, has anyone had a 5th vaccination?
Thanks

I was instructed to continue Pegasys as ordered when I had COVID. The instruction was also not to treat COVID any differently because of having PV. I did opt for monoclonal antibody treatment, but qualified based on age rather than MPN status. It took about 14 days to get over primary symptoms and 3 months for the fatigue to completely resolve.
I did get the new version of the booster several months ago. Glad to have the updated protection. Having COVID once was enough.
I don't have info in Covid with IFN. But for the 5th vax, to an extent you just got up to date with the natural infection by the one of the latest variants. This is "hybrid" immunity which is having both vax and infection, it's considered good protection while they don't suggest actively seeking it.
When the required time has past after your infection, (each country is different) you may consider getting the current bivalent vax for an extra layer of protection against Omicron.
I recently had covid for the first time which luckily wasn’t too bad. Therefore I didn’t seek to have the antivirals
I take weekly Pegasys injections and just continued to take them as normal whilst having covid. If you’re unsure then checking is probably the right thing to do.
On the upside, my worst days with covid were on a Thursday and Friday and my Peg day is Sunday.
I had my fifth covid vaccine in May but haven’t had the next one yet. I will probably do this early in the New Year.
Hi. I can’t comment on the Covid / Peg question but I got Covid after my flu vaccine and before I had a chance to get my 6th Covid vaccine. (Bad choice with hindsight!!) I waited the mandatory four weeks after testing positive and then got my 6th jab.
I got antivirals and found I was on the mend pretty quickly with no lasting effects. (Although with PV hard to tell where the fatigue is coming from! Business as usual!!)
Rest, rest and more rest! Listen to your body, don’t push yourself. Covid is really like nothing our bodies have experienced before so it’s not the same as recovering from things that we know how to manage. I had it quite badly in June, didn’t get antiviral due to slow (no) response from hospital and took several weeks to recover. But if you can give yourself permission to rest as much as you need to it’ll be easier. Take care xx
