Thirteen years ago today a nurse walked into my hospital room at UCH London and hung up a bag of stem cells donated by Sarah Gardner ( a forty something mum of four) to replace my bone marrow that had been damaged by Myelofibrosis.
I still buddy and also tap up anyone who will listen to join the bone marrow/stem cell database to help others. Sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, grandchildren etc, anyone can help. Proud of one of my nephews who was called upon to donate stem cells recently.
I know there are many of you here following the same path and I wish you all the best.

Wishing you a Happy Re-Birthday ! Chris you were and remain an inspiration to me and I'm sure to many others especially those for whom you offer your services as a buddy. You're a shining example of living life to the full having been given a second chance by your donor Sarah and as this post demonstrates you are as ever an advocate for other good folk to step up and give others the chance that we have benefited from. How fitting that your nephew was called upon, I guess it's no small coincidence he was registered.
Happy Rebirthday! Yes, my teenage son signed up to the bone marrow register. He’s trying to encourage others to do it - and to become blood donors. Enjoy your day.
Thanks for all your encouragement and advocacy. Happy Re-birthday, Simon
OH currently in hospital in France, awaiting next move in treatment for myelodysplasia. Bone marrow transplant is one option. Your post has given me hope. Delighted it all went well for you.
Nice to hear from you. Glad you are progressing your SCT. I am now 13 years out and holding! 😀 My friend Celia Bass had her successful transplant at Addenbrookes; it is a great hospital.
Let me know if I can help with anything. Currently in Uzbekistan but return fairly soon. Best wishes as you move forward.
