Hi. I have primary myelofibrosis. I am getting pains in my knuckles and shooting pains in some fingers and along the side of my hand pretty well every day. My consultant says MPN related bone pain is usually in the big bones, so hand pain is likely to be unrelated. Do other MPN sufferers have hand pain?

Hand Pain
Yes me ,all the time & since my diagnosis 12 years ago. Hips ,back ,legs too .Think it goes with the maladie, maybe too life style...I am sculptor ,bred horses all my life, also getting older!!!! Could it be osteo arthrose for you ? Some of mine is ,hips in particular. I Take paracetamol more than I really want to.,Ibuprofen only when very painful hands & only for a few days as I have a stent due to thick blood in the early days of P V .We are between a rock & a hard place.Hope you find some relief.
Wildwood6, look into magnesium, boron and annatto tocotrienol. Check with Doc before using any supplement.
Yes to pain in hands and other joints. In my case, due to osteoarthritis. I found significant relief with curcumin, which is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It works better than ibuprofen or meloxicam or Lyrica for this type of pain for me. Note that long-term use of NSAIDs is contraindicated when you are on aspirin or another blood thinner.
Note that the MPNs are at the core inflammatory disorders, We are prone to a host of inflammation related symptoms. Controlling systemic inflammation s an important part of treating MPNs.
We can also experience unrelated issues. As Pte82 suggested, a nutritional assessment would be a good idea. When I checked, I was found to have Magnesium and Vit D deficiencies. Supplements for these deficiencies have helped me.
Note that even "unrelated" issues can be worsened by the pro-inflammatory environment created by the MPN. There are dietary and different supplements that can help with this (e.g. curcmin, N-acetylcysteine). I consult with an Integrative Medicine doc about these complementary health approaches. it is very helpful.
ALl the best.

Hi I was just about to post the same. I have ET Jak2 and right now have pain in lower back hips hands knuckles and my fingers splay in cramp (very painful). My GP has done Blood tests and all have come back negative for arthritis. Going for second session with physio tomorrow so will see how it goes. I try to be positive. Good luck to you.
It sounds more like arthritis than bone pain from MF. Arthritis is very common especially as we get older and can be very painful. Diet and physical therapy have helped me over the years. I hope you find some relief soon.
I have joint pain in my thumbs as well as shooting pain due to osteoarthritis. My rheumatologist recommended a topical NSAID, Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel, 1%. It used to be by prescription in the US, but is now over the counter. I was told to use it 2-3 times a day. It helps a lot and targets only the area that needs help.
Exercise was the the key for me
Thanks for all the replies
I had a same pain 2 mo ago and treated with Lyrica 75mg.
Last week doc gave to me Zyloric and the pain has gone. Thank to God.
Maybe you could check your uric acid and talk to your doc.
