I heard of a very worrying situation this week. Apparently a check-out employee at our local Co-Op supermarket, although wearing a mask, was coughing incessantly and when asked by a customer if she had taken a Covid test answered that she hadn’t because she couldn’t afford to lose her wage and they were not paying staff who stayed off . I’m still trying to avoid shops as much as possible. My husband does a weekly shop for us. However, from what I read people do not seem to be isolating now when they have Covid symptoms and just carrying on as if it’s a cold. Is this correct? Are employers not paying staff who are absent because of Covid?

Are there no Covid guidelines at all now?
It’s still as scary as ever isn’t it. In 2020 the fear was the virus itself, in 2022 our fear is having to live with it forever by the look of it. I still think the vulnerable are the forgotten. The elderly who die will save the government millions in pensions. The sick who die will save the NHS millions. We are the disposable and nothing will change my mind on that.
I had my fourth jab two days ago. For the first 3 vaccinations my husband, who is my carer, was offered his jab close to mine. When I asked about when he will be called in, they didn’t have an answer. What’s the use of me getting jabs when my husband is being denied them?
As for your question, I think if people work with the vulnerable, as care home workers, I think they have to have a 2 day negative test before they can return to work.
Hope your keeping well luv xxx
Hello Jill, lovely to hear from you. I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering if I should email to see how you’ve settled in your new home . I agree entirely with you about “never mind the elderly and vulnerable” less to pay out on pensions and NHS if we get Covid and die. I got my 4 th jab in mid February after great difficulty and my husband has just had his last week. I must admit he did get an email from NHS telling him he was eligible to book but this because we’re in our 80’s ,not because Im immunosuppressed. Hope you’re keeping as well as possible. Love, Franxx
Hi Jill. Good to see you here again. I have also had a fourth jab and my partner doesn’t qualify. The reason that we are being offered that 4th one is because of our vulnerability which possibly doesn’t apply to your husband? I still feel quite vulnerable considering the amount of covid out there.I hope you are keeping well
Best wishes, Jan
Hi Jan, I just struggle to understand why my carer (my husband) is not given a fourth jab as he is the person most likely to infect me should he come down with the virus.
Haven't been on for a while, struggling with depression, sorry. Hope your okay?
Jill xxxx
Hi Jill. I’m sorry to hear that you have been struggling. I hope you are getting some good support. I agree that your husband is the one possibly most likely to infect you but if his immune system is not compromised he will probably have developed enough antibodies to covid without further vaccination. Maybe you could seek some reassurance from your doctor?
I’m doing relatively ok at the moment thank you. Very best wishes, Jan xx
I have no useful info for you but just a note here in southern California, masks are no longer required and lately in the food market it's ~1/3 of the people using one. I still wear n-95 in public esp so I don't bring anything back to my loved ones.
My husband got it from me early Mar 2020 and near died.
Hi Fran, this is the advice on the government website gov.uk/coronavirus
It is really annoying the amount of disregard for those who are vulnerable. On the London underground, it is indicated that passengers should wear masks but only a minority do. Rush hour must be avoided at all costs! I wear my ffp2 or n-95 at all times in any indoor public venue, but will not go the cinema or theatre. No way. I brave museums and restaurants occasionally, but if too crowded I will leave. I got my fourth jab three weeks ago, but my husband was not offered it. He had covid though , last month, so should be immune. Whilst he was positive, we isolated from each other and I did not catch it. It's a complicated life and I fear that sooner or later I may get it.
As I understand it vaccinated staff get sick pay unvaccinated don't which is stupid as vaccine doesn't prevent Covid hubby triple Janesville caught it.
Some companies did introduce rules like that but its not official and only applicable to those companies who chose to do that.
I guess they looked at it that the vaccine, while not preventing infection, did lessen the effects in most people, so i guess potentially an earlier return to work, and of course it is effective in preventing any infection, just not 100%. So those with the vaccine stand less chance of catching covid.
Hi azaelea, I’m afraid there seems to be only guidelines now. A work colleague had Covid the other week, they wouldn’t of known if they hadn’t done a LFT. They still came to work, fortunately they made me aware and we didn’t work in the same area.
