I’ve been trying to get healthier with diet and exercise, and by the end of the year, will have lost 50 pounds.
My understanding is that by losing weight, overall body blood volume decreases. So since blood volume is decreasing, should I expect blood counts to increase since they’re more concentrated in circulation, or will the marrow respond and regulate concentrations accordingly?
Wondering if anyone has any experience with “significant” weight loss and any effect on their counts.

I did not experience any difference in blood cell counts due to weight loss. I did feel better overall. Reducing wear and tear on joints, better cardiovascular health, and reduced risk due to better overall health are definatley worth it.
My name is Steve from the land of Oz, I'm a tad older than you, however, after circa 5 years of being on Jakavi, (Ruxolitinib), which is known to increase one's weight generally...
More importantly, it helped me get back into the swing of doing exercise, & I took up cycling...
During this time, I initially was quite over weight, & lost circa 25-30kg. Now my weight fluctuates from 90-100+kg, ( I am a rugby type build c. 6' tall), 62 yo.
The main finding I have discovered is that super intense exercise made my Platelets go even higher...
More I exercise, the more I seem to require a Vitamin D supplement too...
Not sure what sort of diet you are trying to maintain, (very successfully too from your reports)? However, I endeavour to stick to an anti-inflammatory diet; mainly Plant-based, some seafood, no processed foods, no added sugar, no alcohol, no soft drinks...
Works for me, most of the time... I do not worry too much when I slip into some bad habits for a while, (Ice creams, salt & pepper squid from the fish shop etc...)
Hope something here helps...
Best wishes, stay happy, fit & healthy dude...
Steve

Hi, I also lost 50 lbs starting when the pandemic started. It did not have any perceptible effect on my blood counts. My counts took a huge jump about 6 wks after I had my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Cause and effect? Who knows? I actually felt better at my higher weight. Maybe it is a function of time. I have gained back about 20 of those pounds. I feel better at this weight than I did at 208. Best.
what ever happened with you? I have a similar situation although I did have a bmb 3.5 years ago that was normal, my platelets have been over 400 -450 for 5 years and wbc is also generally a little elevated, recently platelets at 500 and then a week later 469, so higher than previously
really trying to see if you’re still around…I’d like to know if the weight loss helped, similar situation as you, chronically high 400-500 platelets. Several years ago tested negative for mutations and normal bmb. Needed to lose about 30 total, down about 13, on a statin, exercising more…would just like to know what happened with you
