This month Alice talks about the how and why people acquire their MPN, what causes them, and the research that is hoping to find the answers.
Alice and her parents have thought about many different factors that could have caused her MPN and says it was like searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. She then started to look into the research that is being conducted, including the MOSAICC study which is aiming to identify causes of MPNs and the study conducted by the Wellcome Sanger Institute and University of Cambridge.
The researchers performed genomic sequencing of 12 MPN patients between the ages of 20 and 81, Alice said that the inclusion of the 20 year old patient made her sit up and take notice, that someone like her was an integral part of the research.
