Latest Information from Bloodwise

Hi everyone,

I was reading the Bloodwise website this evening and came across this updated information. I realise that this is slightly different from what we have been advised by the MPN Clinicians and therefore may cause further confusion, however, I think it's important to put it out there in what is a fast changing situation, so that we can all make our own decisions based on the advice available.

'There are some uncertainties in the clinical community about whether certain groups of patients are at a higher risk or not, such as people with CML taking TKIs, and people with MPNs. While it's true that these conditions and treatments don't normally affect the immune system in a clinically significant way, coronavirus is a new virus, and we can't say for sure that these people are definitely not at a higher risk. This is why the NHS does include people with CML on TKIs and people with MPNs in the higher risk group outlined above.'

Stay safe everyone

It’s good to read all of the reputable sources available to us, so many thanks for this.

Thanks - and this was exactly what I was told this week by my consultant (all the clinic done by fone) - said that is their dept stance all patients to follow the higher risk group direction and keep updating on it as it will keep changing - she did say for me too as I always have low neuts it would apply from that too. All our consultants are stars and have been put in a fast and unknown situation that they have no experience with, CV is an unknown quantity, so the more we listen and follow direction the more it will benefit us. All the best

Thanks for your reply. It sounds as though we will get a call either from our surgeries or haem teams the early part of next week, so hopefully it will remove any doubt or ambiguity from this very difficult situation. Stay safe

My thoughts are better to be safe than sorry, so I have self isolated for the last two weeks mainly because I have had the most horrendous cold and cough so have been sending hubby out to do the shopping, and when he gets home his cloths are washed, I know it’s extreme but I am still cautious, bless him.

Have had notifications from kings, saying that my hospital in Bromley, which I have an appointment next Wednesday could be cancelled, but looking at it on a daily basis.
