Evening all...
As some of you may recall, sometime ago in 2021, Warwick, (one of our committee members), underwent his Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant (ASCT) journey.
While his condition is deemed a success, the journey itself remains ongoing w/ quite a few twists & turns...
However, if any of you are interested, best you direct your questions through MATES to Warwick, simply because Warwick is a bit of a 'Technophobe' when it comes to computers etc...
There certainly are some interesting aspects of being the beneficiary of an ASCT, (hopefully they are all as successful of course), however, fascinating nonetheless...
Not sure if everyone fully comprehends some of the benefits that such a process can actually deliver to its recipients... (?)
For instance; the ASCT intentionally aims to remove one's existing "Immune System" by creating a completely new Hybrid replacement, through the advent of the Donor's gift of matching 'Stem cells'.
Warwick has told me a great deal about some of this journey thus far, and one or more of the more amazing things that have transpired, according to Warwick:
* He has now gone from Blood Type 'O' to 'A'
* He has a completely new 'Immune System'
* He is currently again having to once again undergo, all of the earlier vaccinations that we have as children: mumps, chickenpox, measles, polio, TB etc, etc...
* According to Warwick, he believes he no longer recognises himself in the mirror...
Just to highlight this last point, included below is a B4 & Post ASCT photograph of Warwick... You be the judge, does he look different to you?
Best wishes all...
For & on behalf of Warwick, (naturally) any & all questions will be forwarded on to Warwick...
Stay safe, happy & well guys...
Steve

Nice to hear. Co-incidentally I had a quick chat with him yesterday using whatsapp, once I had worked out how to dial an Australian mobile! He sounded good and as you indicate is making sound progress. regards
Chris
ps Despite being careful I have picked up Covid from a skiing trip. 11 years out from SCT with no real symptoms, I am on day four and okay.
Very sorry to learn that you've had to contend w/ CV–19. Fortunately, for you, you were obviously vaccinated, (I'm assuming that's why you were/are basically asymptomatic etc).
Best wishes & I trust that you will be hitting the slopes again real soon...
Warwick mentioned he's been chatting w/ you Chris. I know he's wishing his recovery would expedite his return to normalcy. However, generally speaking, he does seem to be doing much better these days...
As you can imagine it is hugely encouraging for me to read about others' SCT journeys so thank you to you and to Warwick. He does look completely different! I guess those are "chemo curls" which I've been told to expect. I know that it's impossible to tell from a photo but he looks well.
His face is also much rounder, & Warwick has gained some weight too... But generally-speaking, he looks & sounds much healthier than prior to his ASCT...
Very best wishes w/ your ongoing journey too Jennie... I will try to get Warwick to respond himself in due course etc...
Send my best wishes to Warwick for a continued recovery. I must say he looks really well. I am hoping that I can make as good a recovery after my SCT as he seems to have.
Hey Steve - really good to get that news about Warwick. Very encouraging for those planning to have an SCT. He looks amazing! The picture of health though I’m sure he has a way to go yet. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for your response, lovely to hear from you also... I hope your treatment of using Rux' did help w/ your enlarged spleen, as I recall reading about some of your concerns quite some time ago...
Warwick still has a 'few bumps in the road' to ov ercome, but he is certainly doing much better, that is certain.
Hey Steve - yes thanks I’m feeling really well and Rux has been great for me and fingers crossed it continues for as long as possible. . No problem with spleen now. Also survived The Pandemic without catching the virus so far. I hope the same for you. Also hope your MF is giving you as little trouble as possible. Really good to see you back on the forum with your always interesting and informative posts. Keep well Steve. 😄
Hi Socrates and Warwick, thank you for the update. It is so great to hear that his recovery is going so well. The bravery and resilience that is required to go through this process is to be commended and it is lovely to see such a lovely pic of Warwick looking so well. He does look different too! I hope his recovery continues to go well. Brona
Thanks so much for sharing. Extremely interesting & informative. There are many things that I wasn’t aware of .
Just one question though.
The transformation in the 2 pics is interesting. No Spurs items being worn in the latter. Has the process changed the team you support? If so I’d personally say that’s another benefit😀
Hi, Steve, good to hear from you. The difference in the photos is astounding. I’m happy for him that the procedure was a success. I hope he overcomes those “bumps in the road” and is feeling as good as he looks. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting. Great news that Warwick is doing well, he certainly looks good. Hope he feels as well. I am sure it has been a tough road but he is obviously tougher. Best for a continued complication free recovery.
Well done Warwick looking great, , , What a transformation pre and post. Always a boost to see another lucky winner after taking a spin on the SCT roulette wheel. . . Took me ages to grow a few whiskers back !!
What absolutely wonderful news. I have often wondered how Warwick is doing and, as others have said, his is a really encouraging story. Please do give him my best wishes, Steve. And I hope you too are doing well.Paula
So neat. It seems like refreshing the operating system, then you got to load all the anti-virus software all over again. The fact the that all those vaxes should work is a great sign of how amazing the ACST is.
