Curcumin formula

Some of us are taking the Curcuwin version of curcumin. A bit of info on it:

This report finds a specific formulation of Curc provides the highest bioavail:

"CHC showed a 45.9-fold higher absorption over CS and significantly improved absorption over CP (5.8-fold) and CTR (34.9-fold, all p < 0.001). A formulation of curcumin with a combination of hydrophilic carrier, cellulosic derivatives and natural antioxidants significantly increases curcuminoid appearance in the blood in comparison to unformulated standard curcumin CS, CTR and CP."

And here it connects the above formula to Curcuwin:

"Curcumin (CurcuWINTM) a polyphenolic compound isolated from Curcuma longa L. and has a long history of use in Indian medicine. The curcumin formulation(CurcuWINTM) is a combination of hydrophilic carrier, cellulosic derivatives and natural antioxidants significantly increases curcuminoid appearance in the blood (46 fold increase over other forms). " This is the CHC from the report above.

So Curcuwin has been shown to be a best curc version. The Walmart curcuwin bottle has that 46x number right on it. But the descriptions of curcuwin are suspiciously similar in the two reports.

Great information. Interesting to see that the research does match our experience with CurcuWIN.

which one do you take?

I take Walmart curcuwin as Hunter has made me aware. I think for me the NAC has more apparent effect, but we never know for sure.

You are taking both?

Yes, I take one Curc and two NAC 600's per day. I was doing 2 curcs per day before but decided to reduce it . I'm still not sure whether NAC and Curc conflict.

Thanks. I use this one: pureformulas.com/meriva-500...

But I'll try curcuwin.

I can't say which is best, but from a chemistry aspect the one you're taking has "phospolipid". I don't know what that is except "lipid" is a fat or oily thing that is not water soluble. The magic formula in curcuwin above has a "hydrophilic carrier". This is water soluble. So it could be we want water soluble rather than oily for the 46X effect.

The oily one like you're taking could be closer to "a formulation with volatile oils of turmeric rhizome (CTR)" described in the 1st report. CTR was not very effective according to that report.

On a totally unrelated note, lipids are what make the mRNA covid vaxes work. It also is the trick to the glutathione Hunter takes, as in a recent post. But maybe in curc it's not beneficial.

This is the formulation being discussed. Note that there are at least 3 different turmeric formulations under this brand name. Look for the CurcuWIN on the label.

EPguy would you mind sharing the exact name of the Curcuwin and NAC you take? I looked on the Walmart site and there are many. It's been suggested I start taking those two as well as Resveratrol, EGCG and CoQ10. Thanks.

I am confused…why are you taking this?

Thanks, Eileen

For me I don't have a specific benefit, just that it's been considered useful for many conditions so I take a low dose. Others here, such as Hunter, have seen improvements in osteoarthritis and the like.

I feel more specific benefit from NAC supplement.

Thank you. I'm taking Turmeric. But, perhaps I should take curcuwin instead. I had never heard of curcuwin until your message today.

According to this and other studies, regular tumeric is good for flavoring food but does not get too much active curc into our bodies.

I broke my skull, double seizure, in Jan 2018, after Hunter's recommendation I started taking Turmeric, because of my balance, equilibrium issues, and that it would not react to my epilepsy medication, the likes of aspirin being an example, in September 2021, a considerable improvement, still as ever looking for improvement, have tried Curcumin but at present find Turmeric with black pepper my best so far, still feeling the market! I also have osteoarthritis! Found cheap supermarket 'medical' alternatives a disaster! I have a good friend in my local health shop will ask him about Curcuwin.

There is known added effect when pepper is included, some formulas have it.

"Research supports that combining the piperine in black pepper with the curcumin in turmeric enhances curcumin absorption by up to 2,000% (2, 7, 8)."

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/961...

A 2000% increase is 20X. So 20X for pepper or 46 X for WIN, either puts a lot of curc to work.

I have been using Curcumin for years, in the plus piperine formulation, but I came across this article about its hepatotoxicity in some cases, which has prompted me to take a break whilst I am currently taking both HU and Pegasys:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK5....

The issue of hepatotoxicity is particularly relevant to the high bioavailability formulation.

I am not convinced that overdoing supplementation is necessarily useful or safe.

I've seen that report. It's one reason I limit my curc to one pill/day.

For MPN pts, we should be getting regular CMP blood counts, and the aminotransferase (ALT) would show up according to this report. It is a good point that if ALT is high and one is on IFN + Curc, it's worth holding the curc before blaming the IFN.

The other supp often discussed with curc, NAC, is used in very high doses for liver therapy (Overdose on tylenol). So far I've not seen similar risks on that one.

Not what you're looking for?
