I am on my second weekly injection of Interferon. When I went to inject into my tummy area I noticed the site of my first injection was a red circular rash. It wasn’t itchy or sore, just a red rash. I injected on the other side of my tummy this time and sure enough a red rash appeared. The first rash is a week and a half old and is only just fading. I am assuming I have an allergy to it but as it’s not itchy or sore I don’t want to give up on it so soon. Has anybody else had this when first trying Interferon?

I had a blotchy red rash one time, but was not sure if it was the PEG as it was not centered on the injection site. It has not recurred. Injection site reactions are a common side effect. I would not necessarily consider it to be an allergic reaction per se. Best to let the prescriber know, but in the absence of a significant allergic reaction, I would think it is not a bid deal.
Hi Jilly,I think what you describe is a common reaction to interferon. I have been taking it for 2 years now and always have faint red blotchy areas where I inject for about two weeks afterwards. Therefore, as I inject weekly I always have a couple of areas of discolouration. They don’t hurt or itch. The only piece of advice I’d give is to make sure you are rotating injection sites as I had some hard lumps where I had inadvertently injected in the same place too quickly.
Yes it is a common reaction on the Peg injection site, I always had a red spot patch where I injected for a week or so then it faded, now I have been on Peg a few years it doesn't happen most of the time
