I read that we are more susceptible to shingles. We can't have the live vaccine but do mpn doctors recommend Shingrix before starting treatment?

Can we get Shingrix vaccine ahead of MF treatment?
Hi Scaredy_cat , , I doubt this would be given as standard and was never part of my MF treatment plan or my SCT aftercare. Luckily Shingles is one thing I've managed to avoid since diagnosis in 2006. But it is a factor for the immuno-suppressed taking HU etc but could be low risk. I would raise this with your Haematologist or Clinical Nurse Specialist to get a professional current take on the chances of a Shingles outbreak for you.
Good Luck with your MF treatment going forward.
Chris
Hi, I too would like to get the vaccine, but the last time I looked it wasn't available on the NHS. Private supplies were limited and the cost was over £500 for both doses. I'm actually taking a prophylactic dose of Aciclovir (400mg twice a day) which has kept my small shingles-type rashes at bay. Certainly worth further research.
Hi
Shingrix is not a live vaccine please see link
It’s given in two doses.
My GP has informed me that Shringrix should be available on NHS within the next 6 months or so.
