Easier said than done I know, but try not to worry. Your platelet count is not very high - just slightly above the “normal” level. After your next blood test, your doctor may advise a “watch and see” - just regular blood testing to keep an eye on things. If you’ve had something like a stroke or other clotting issue, they’ll take that into account. The great part is that your levels are being monitored to make sure you’ll stay okay.

Thank you, I tend to panic, I’m hoping it’s due to the fact I have had a dormant abscess under back tooth for a couple of years but having it removed before next blood test, I just worry it’s something more serious and I’m not sure if chronic anxiety contributes to the raise?

I'm not positive, but stress levels might have an effect. As I say though, and I definitely speak from experience, it's not easy to "just relax" about it. Your levels are definitely lower than whacks of people on this forum. Once you have your next blood test, you'll know a bit more. Do check in on this forum, as people here are very helpful, and have lots of personal experience. Now, deep breath in . . . and out . . .

It is now possible to see one's medical records online. I was going through some old blood tests, in 2013 I was investigated for overactive thyroid, my platelets were 500 then and nobody said anything about it. In 2016 I went to see the GP because I thought I had breast cancer, I didn't but blood test was done and I was diagnosed with ET JAK2+ with platelets over 1000. So obviously it just depends on the individual doctor, some may not be worried if your platelets are 500. I am taking Hydrea 9x500mg a week and I like to keep my platelets between 600-700 and I feel comfortable with that. I am 62 and eventually I will die of something, maybe a blood disorder, stroke, heart attack or like my mother, just old age. I keep myself as healthy as I can and what is the point of worrying.

Hey - relax,,,,, the norm for most laboratories 150 - 450, when my husband was first diagnosed the norm was 150 - 400, anything above the 400 mark used to worry the heck out of us..... then we met a fantastic haematologist who said she would start to 'wrinkle her nose' (yes really!) if his count went above 600. sort your tooth abscess out as all infections in the body make the bloods rally like an army to fight them!! Very vest wishes

The doc said 150-400 in uk and no diagnosis as yet just 3 month blood tests to see if coming down but yes I’m worried.

Try not to worry too much. Have you been diagnosed? Most people with E T try and keep their platelets below 450. Im one of those.

If you get a diagnosis and they don’t rise any more you might well not even notice you are ill. Better still won’t need meds yet.

We are here for you.

Hi, no I haven’t been diagnosed, I’m way ahead of myself with the worry, last 2 blood tests were slightly elevated, doc wasn’t too concerned and just said to repeat in 3 months highest 430 and last test 417 so slightly down, can you get diagnosed when they are only slightly elevated?

There are things like a bone marrow biopsy but your doc may not need you to have one given his (her?) plan to do the blood tests and wait and see. You’re not in a very high zone at all at this time. I had to learn to stay the heck off the Internet as the info is conflicting and the studies are limited. You’ll get way more useful info on this forum for sure.

I’m afraid it’s a waiting game. Infection in the body can make your platelets rise. Hence the term secondary ET. I had to have lots of tests to see if that’s what I had. A gene test resulted me positive for Calr. To put your mind at rest why don’t you ask for such a test. My results took 5 weeks to come back.

Good luck
