I have been seeing a haematologist for 3 years now , it was discovered that I had a higher than normal platelet count on an incidental finding for something else . My platelets are generally around 550 apparently my platelet count has been like this for 7 years but was only flagged up 3 years ago and was referred to haematology. In this time I have had numerous tests to look for the cause I am triple negative for all known markers , BMAT showed a likely reactive component. I am now being monitored yearly as platelets stay mildly elevated, they call it a persistent mild thrombocytes. The reason I am posting this is to find out if anyone else on here has been in a similar situation, and did eventually get a diagnosis of a blood disorder, I have also twice been given iron tablets as my haemoglobin levels were slightly low but returned to normal .
Thanks for any help on this

I have ET JAK2 diagnosed in Jan this year. In my case I had slowly increasing platelets over many years with no comment from my Primary care doctor. However, it wasn't until last year when the rate of increase ratcheted up markedly that they started to look for reasons.
Based on my very limited experience and from what I've read here, physicians seem to have varying opinions on how high is too high for platelets. Since your levels seem quite stable, and assuming you have no other risk factors or signs of clotting issues, they may feel keeping an eye on the situation is a better option than starting you on medications that may cause larger problems later.
Hi nightshadow Thanks for sharing your thoughts on my situation like you suggest Drs do seem to take that path i have been told in the past that aspirin would be used if they reach 600. Many Thanks
Hi Hamburger21! I’m just starting the testing process myself, but curious to see if you have any symptoms? And what’s your age? I’ve had rising platelets for 4 years and doctor never said anything. My platelets are only slightly elevated but because I have history of blood cancers in my family, the MPN specialist I spoke with does feel more tests should be done. Jak2 already came back negative.
Hi Levi’s mamaThanks for responding sounds like a similar situation for us , although I have no family history . I’m am 65 years old , since being seen by haematology I have mentioned that I get itchy occasionally , my feet throb and get red , I feel tired sometimes . I hope you manage to get further testing done .
