Excellent. Worth a look. Thanks Chris
Very helpful and simple to follow. Praying that this virus dies out all over the earth and especially for all MPN patients to stay and become well 🙏🏻
Many Thanks Steve, , I hope you are as well as you can be , , I must admit I'm finding this particular lockdown in the UK much harder than before likely because I'm a Saddo. By that I mean I've always disliked the very cold weather and shorter days , ie Seasonal Affected Disorder !
I note from that the UK isn't specifying that if you have the Pfizer vaccine first you might not necessarily get it as your 2nd dose and vice versa with the Moderna. Personally I would like both mine to tally although they're apparently not miles apart in core 'ingredients'.
Cheers buddy - Chris
The uk Government denied this Chris and says both doses will be from the same batch, meaning they do tally. Lets hope we don't get the Government doing a u-turn on it though!Tina.🤗
Thanks Tico this passed me by as I've been avoiding some if the Covid updates of late as there's only so much info I can process and it seemed I was being overloaded with too much doom and gloom. Additionally i feel there's quite a bit of contradiction, some fudging and some unknowns. I shall be asking if and when I get my first one !

Hey Chris...
Hoping that you are as well as you can be too buddy...
Yes, that is also my understanding. However, the AZ vaccine, is quite different again as it is a 'Viral vector' derived protein, which I doubt would be compatible w/ the other two being Pfizer & Moderna etc.
By the way, I cannot stand the cold very well at all... Makes me ache in my joints & bones very badly... Our summer has been warmish, but wet too... and it will all be over all too soon for my liking Chris...
Stay safe, happy & well buddy...
Steve
I’ve got my first Pfizer jab tomorrow and confirmation of my second one, also Pfizer, on 10th April.
I watched an interesting webinar today in which scientists discussed the ‘mixed vaccines’ approach - it’s definitely not policy at the moment but research is being carried out to see if one dose of one vaccine and a second dose of another one might offer enhanced protection - time will tell..!
Just watched the video, very informative, good to hear off a different range of healthcare professionals. Tina.🤗
Thanks, Steve. I just watched it. It was very easy to follow with simple, straightforward answers. Hope all is well.
Cindy
Thanks for that good to hear.
Getting my first jab tomorrow 😁
Great video Steve, interestingly there were earlier reports by media saying that Germany regulator advised that AstraZeneca vaccine is having low efficacy rate and not advised for people over 45 And this was changed not for people over 65. Also TGA is saying it’s not the case. It seems that every country is “up selling” virtues of its own vaccine. Russia/China is also claiming efficacy rates of 90%. Personally I thought oxfords AstraZeneca is possibly “best” due to old school ingredients -inactivated protein chimp flu....
Hey Leon...
In my view, AZ may be an untested vaccine when it comes to people w/ compromised immune systems, which might include many of us w/ an MPN...
Personally, I believe Australia is utilising this option mainly because of dollars, (AZ is the least expensive option)... ?
It is a "LIVE'" viral vector protein, & as such, is not suitable for us, in my limited perspective...
I am "Watching & Waiting" & following the results of others before making any final decision either way...
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Steve,I sat in on a Covid webinar run by Blood Cancer UK a couple of weeks ago and the issue of live vaccines was raised. The experts were unanimous in saying that the AZ vaccine is not classed as live (although technically it might qualify), and that it is suitable for people with blood cancers, including MPNs. The same ruling (suitable for us) also applies to Pfizer and Moderna.
I hope that helps
John
Hey John...
I really appreciate your input... and I guess that might also help to explain why AZ vaccinations of MPN peoples in the UK seems to be moving forward...
I do hope that it proves to be the case John, however, it is my understanding that there was no testing by any of the approved vaccines on people who were either aged or immune compromised. Hence, I would really like to understand from where, (which source), they are basing their claims... Big Pharma Press Releases or Scientific testing?
Best wishes
Steve
Yes you are right :Vector vaccines contain a weakened version of a live virus—a different virus than the one that causes COVID-19—that has genetic material from the virus that causes COVID-19 inserted in it (this is called a viral vector).Jan 13, 2021
I am on the vulnerable list even though, strictly, I don’t fit the government criteria. I was put on it by my doctors surgery and when I spoke to my excellent GP she said that I should be on it as I have ‘an unusual’ immune system because of my SCT. I got the call and get a jab tomorrow but don’t know which one. A while back I spoke to my transplant specialist (first time for four years) about which one and she said take whichever one I am offered.
She is cautious and when I had my childhood vaccinations 18 months post SCT she had stopped me having the Measles part of MMR, as it was a live vaccine . (Not all SCT teams follow this) This curtailed a couple of trips away. However the increase of Measles here in the uk and in European countries that I was visiting , courtesy of MMR antivaxers, made it important that I take it four years ago.
(Incidentally, yellow fever, the other live vaccine needed for a lot of travels is off the agenda due to a combination of SCT and age.)
Regarding the comment on two different jabs, I think this was said in answer to a question on what would happen if someone/the records didn’t know which jab had been taken first. The response that it wouldn’t harm to take a different one the second time was subsequently picked up and expanded despite being discounted many times. It is unfortunate it is in this excellent video.
Chris
Hey Chris...
I believe that my immune system in compromised also, as I am taking Ruxolitinib which suppresses the immune system as part of its function, which in turn exposes consumers to greater vulnerability and infections of all kinds...
My specialist told me long ago, more people suffer from infection than perish from MF...
Interesting dilemma is it not?
Stay safe buddy...
Steve
Thanks for taking the time to post this!
Thanks for sharing this with all of us. The director of CDC here in the U.S, is not recommending you mix the different vaccines. I am still on the fence as I am taking Ruxolitinib for PV and a blood thinner for PE's in my lung last July. Scared to take vaccines but scared not to and catch Covid.
Hey Buggerbear...
Yes, I have the same dilemma... as I am also taking 25mg b/d Ruxolitinib... I am "Waiting & Watching" closely at the present of all those brave people ahead of me in the vaccine availability curve etc...
Best wishes, stay safe & well...
Steve
Thanks for this interesting post on vaccines Steve. It answers a lot of questions. I will be getting the Astra Zeneca vaccine (when and if they can stop quarrelling about it) and I presume most of the info on your post will apply to that too. Hope you’re keeping well and back on the bike again!
Take care,
Ettiel
