I don't know if it helps but I have ET and have had the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine two weeks ago, without any problems, many of my colleagues have had it and the one problem we've all had is an uncomfortable arm for 24 hrs, some of us have had a niggly headache which eased with paracetamol.

My specialist last week told me to get it asap. He said only the rna ones, nothing with the real virus in it. Will it be safe? We’ll probably only really know in 35 years (or less if it’s not).

Too true, look at all the people who worked with or witnessed atom bombs go up. They had minimal protection. The pill, thalidomide and I’m sure many more. It’s the best we have and there is no alternative. Time will tell. I’ll have it when I’m called.

I have PV and can’t wait to have it, what is the alternative? I don’t want to continue with this kind of life. Just make sure it’s the Phiser vaccine, not the live virus one.

Hi Jilly I thought the Oxford vaccine was not a live vaccine? Louise x

It has been clarified by May today that it is not live

There isn't a live one. Maz has asked Prof Harrison.... It's on another thread here.

Do we know whether the vaccine was tested on people with MPNs prior to its release?

Eadaoin profile image
Eadaoin in reply tonivana

Don’t think they tested it on any people with specific individual conditions. That would not have been possible but I am happy with the advice being given by the MPN experts to have the vaccine.

jillydabrat profile image
jillydabrat in reply toEadaoin

If you read the replies it has been clarified that there are no live vaccines. There were two different stories going around about the Oxford vaccine, some saying it was live others saying not but Maz clarified it today.
