Weight
For me personally l think it’s inactivity perhaps linked to several causes ie stress taking new meds, fatigue worries and also eating to many carbs during lockdowns. l also gained a few kilo but lost it fairly easily with dieting and excercise. Will probably gain again now with Christmas ( it’s the chocolates and stollen) and now a second lockdown.
No COVID has had nothing to do with me in that way I’m in Australia it’s been ok here really
I have been on Hyroxy for 6 years , also previously 104 days in lockdown, no, I don't think it is the drug, more likely as someone else said , inactivity and eating more because we are confined. I had lovely neighbours doing some shopping , but most of all it is just BOREDOM, I made three quilts and did a painting , didn't have time to get bored , in fact I actually enjoyed the freedom of myself time. My family had to put up with me feeding them when I was ready. if you have a hobby 'dive right in' by the way I went from 12st.8lb to 11st. 7 lb, Happy Christmas everyone.
Hi, well, I started to gain when I started the medication and I gained a total of 15kg, over abour 10 years. I asked my doctor and she agreed and said it does affect the metabolism. She also mentioned that it is really difficult to lose that medication-weight and she is right there. I might have 5 kg to blame myself for but ...... the rest I think, is with help of medication.
I’ve been on hydrea for over four years, and it hasn’t affected my weight, although, my dose (1x5 weekly) is quite low.My bmi is presently 21. I have a fairly good diet and take light exercise, mainly walking.
Everyone’s metabolism is different.
I have been on hydroxy for 5 years. So far weight gain hasn't been a feature for me.
I put weight on as soon as I started to take hydroxy, I think if you are prone to weight gain anyway then it contributes to it. I'm still struggling to lose it.
I’ve put loads on but I think it’s due to fatigue as I used to be very active
I have put weight on with the Hydrea. I went on it last December and my weight went steadily upwards, and finally stabilised after about 8 months. I have put on a stone. I am walking more and trying to cut down on calories, but it doesn't seem to help. I am gonna try a bit harder in the New Year.
I have been on hydroxyurea for 23 months. I am active and have gained 12 pounds . At first I didn’t feel good and thought if I ate I would feel better but it didn’t make me feel better. I began feeling better when my platelets decreased and I have been trying to lose with little success. I have ET. Good luck with your weight loss and be sure to let us know if you have any tips for losing. I am 71.
I've also put weight on since starting Hydrea 12 months ago but also just gone / going through the change after op last year so think mine could be either or a combination.
