weight loss on Peg

Curious to see if anyone else has lost weight while on Peg interferon? I’ve suddenly started to lose weight in the last month. Probably 6 lbs without trying. I’ve been on Peg for 10 months with no side effects at all. I really have no other reason to have lost weight and I do see it listed as a side effect but haven’t seen it mentioned on her.

do you have your thyroid checked? I’m on Besremi and that’s happened to me after a year being on it and my tsh went high where I need thyroid meds to control it

Thank you for your reply! I am currently on Thyroid meds but maybe I should get rechecked.

I’m recently diagnosed and not on any meds (except aspirin) yet, but when I read thru the list of symptoms I have pretty much all of them EXCEPT the whole “unexplained weight loss” part. Like, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!!! 😂

Same here, except I may have mf, all the symptoms except weight loss, which I would welcome!

Yes I’ve been on Peg for quite a while now and I’ve lost weight. I was also diagnosed with pre diabetes and did the NHS programme which meant I made changes to my diet so some of the weight loss might be due to that. I think there is also a risk of developing diabetes with Pegasys.

Thanks for your reply! So good you were able to control the diabetes with your diet. I’ve made a doctor appointment to check for that and to have my thyroid looked at. Hoping it’s nothing more serious!🥹🫣

Would mind sharing what dose of Peg you are taking? I am sure a lot of people would welcome weight loss, but I can't seem to gain any weight and I am starting Peg next week.

Hi there! My dosage is 75 per week. I’ve been on it for about 6 months.. started at 45 10 months ago then to 60 and now the 75.

I like the slow increase over time. That is what I am going to do as well as long as my doctor does not object. Have you been able to keep you HCT and Platelets under control?

Thanks!

Somewhat but I do still have to have a PB every few months. I’d rather do that than go to a higher dose or supplement with Hydroxy. I’m not having any side effects at all unless the weight loss turns out to be one.

Good luck!

Hello, I’ve been on 45mcg/weekly Peg for nearly 2 years now and I’ve lost 24lb. Went from 8st 10lb down to 7st current weight. I have been eating the same as before I started on it. I was losing 1-2lb every week at one point. Weight loss seems to have slowed down now, finding it difficult to put much back on now. Like you I had no reason for the unexpected weight loss. I hope your weight loss stops or slows down. My Consultant seemed quite worried about the amount I’d lost so they are monitoring it.

Thank you for responding! I really appreciate it. Wow! That’s a lot! I was wondering if you started losing after you were taking it for a while? I just started losing a month ago.. at 9 months and I’ve lost about 6 lbs in 4-5 weeks without any changes.

I think I’d been taking it for about 6 months when I first started losing weight. I didn’t lose any for about 3 months after 18 months but then it started again. I’m not losing now but I think it’s probably because I’ve been on steroids for months for RA. If you are like me it should slow down and stay stable. Obviously everyone’s experience is different. Wishing you well with it all.

I had stable weight on Pegasys, but weight gain on Besremi which is one of the reasons I went back to Pegasys.

I guess weight loss is ok if it is a healthy weight loss, but I am too lean already and lost a bunch of weight after heart surgery last year. I sure don't want to lose any more. I eat like a horse and I just can't seem to gain a pound. I am also a Vegan and maybe that has contributed to my weight loss?
