Hi, I am 50 years old and my doctor just did thorough blood work check on me at my annual appointment. Everything was "perfect", according to her. Except for slightly high platelets, they are 418. She wants to follow up with a blood test again in a few months. I have scoured the internet, I can't find anyone who has had this level. I am quite freaked out by it, has anyone had this experience? Is there anything I can do to bring that number back into the range of normal? Thank you.

Slightly high Platelet, 418 according to my physician
Definitely do not freak out. It sounds like your doctor is thorough. If you platelets continue to remain high, the cause needs to be investigated, but sometimes they elevate for a short period due to inflammation or an infection and then return to normal.
It’s good you are being kept an eye on. Not to worry at present though
My husband had platelets go up to 750 then down to normal when his infection was sorted !! X
Don't panic, some labs don't see that as high & have an upper limit of 450. Platelets naturally fluctuate so likely to be lower at the follow up test. Good that dr is on the ball though.
Hi BobbyBlack, completely understand that you are worried about this, but good that your doctor is going to follow up, and it does not necessarily mean that you have a MPN, so try not to worry until you have had further tests. Best wishes, Maz
Not to worry, 418K is not even high at many labs. The most common upper limit is 450K, which is also the WHO criteria for essential thrombocythemia. Just repeat the labs in a bit and see what happens. For now, just assume you are high normal. FYI - it is normal for platelet levels to vary by as much a 100K, even in a short period of time.
Hi BobbyBlack,Any new developments with your platelets?
Hey any update, mine were 418, do they fluctuate? Is that normal? And if they fluctuate does tht mean that there’s something wrong?
