Hydroxychloroquine & Hydroxyurea for Covid and & ET

I am a teacher with ET, and have been on hydroxyurea (HU) for about 18 months. Feeling pretty good. Will be teaching online for at least a few months, but will eventually be going back into the classroom. Thinking about taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure for catching Covid from students or other teachers. Looking for input. Any other MPN patients taking hydroxychloroquine. Any word about dangerous drug interactions?

No idea on interactions, your consultant will be the best person to ask.

There seems no evidence that Hydroxychloroquine has any affect on preventing Covid19 though, or treating it from the reports I have seen.

I think only Donald Trump seems to be championing it.

Make sure you discuss it with your consultant if you do decide to take it, I would be amazed if he/she advocated it though.

I think many of us will be worried when we start to return to work places, for me I will be insisiting on my employer making my work place as covid secure as possible, and on return if I feel they, or colleagues arent making that possible I will be asking to work from home until such time they do.

Hi, I think weall understand the worry about going back to work after all this time. I work in a dental setting so the precausions are quite extreme to say the least. Now, in your case you have already had advise to check with your doctor but also if you didn't know, they stoped the trails with hydroxychloroquine as it didn't really show any positive results.

As it stated on every medication leaflet, one medication might interfere with the other and some people should not take just that medication anyhow. Besides that, you are paying for something that won't do any good but possibly something bad. Will you be using a mask or so? Have you got handwashing facilities you can prequently use? Handsanitizer? Wipes for surfaces? Can you open a window? (regarding masks...get a "proper" one even if it sounds exspensive.Some very bad ones have been circulating lately and make sure you know how to don and doff the masks, how to keep them and DON'T touch your face!) You will be okay after a little while. Good Luck!

Follow up to my own post.

I did get covid. Started taking hydroxy chkoroquine and ivermectin. Got rid of all symptomes in about 2 days. Tested negative a couple days after that.
