On the 9.30 a.m. BBC news this morning, it was reported that NHS England will be writing to all vulnerable people advising them to self isolate for 12 weeks.
I have already been self isolating for 3 weeks and have not found it to bad because I enjoy being home. Mums carer at her residential home is expecting her first baby after years of trying so my knitting patterns and wool have come out of retirement. This little baby will have quite the wardrobe when it’s born.
I also have a friend who is a professional dog photographer who has let me download all the pictures from her website so I have lots of doggies to paint.
Hubby will soon be in the garden and doing odd jobs around the house.
We can do this people. At the moment I feel like I am living a frightening movie scene.
I shake my head at those who have been told not to go to work but to isolate themselves. Those who are treating this as a paid holiday. Get a brain people. The shopping centres are as busy as ever. I just don’t know what people need to see and hear to stop these idiots. The NHS is getting to the crisis stage. Do we really want martial law?

I agree Jill, we will all have sparkling houses and lovely gardens. I will miss my three daughters birthdays, four grandchildren’s birthdays and two son in laws, but needs must, the NHS will not be able to cope and I don’t want to be the one in hospital when they have to decide on treating me or a younger patient! Lots of shops are now taking the decision to close, John Lewis etc and I think many more will follow so that should enforce the silly people intent on going shopping to stop!
I have plenty to do at home, it’s just the loneliness that gets me sometimes.
Thank you my lovely, we are always at your beck and call if you need to talk to anybody. Do you have any family with no small children who you could stay with? I think the loneliness is going to be the worst to get over. I had a good talk with Alexa yesterday 😂
My girls all have children ranging from 18 to 3, 1 daughter and 2 son in laws are key workers so I don’t want visits from them 😂. they will be able to get any shopping I need and leave it on the doorstep. My brother and sister in law live near but I’d rather be in my own home. I think alone is the way to go and hopefully we will be one of the 20% that don’t get it. I’ll be fine, lived on my own since my husband passed 13 years ago so I’m used to it. I talk to Alexa too and find myself shouting at the tv sometimes 😂
Hi Judy, as Jill has said we are here on line if you need us.
I've ordered a new jigsaw, been doing the garden, made jam, bread and beetroot chutney. Miss grandkids but got a lovely, mischievous video for mothers day and Facetime last night. We will get through it, it's not forever. I think hearing the news once a day is plenty, otherwise I find it makes me more anxious if I listen too often.
Please say if you need to speak. Happy to speak through forum or privately by email or I can text or phone you.
I appreciate it. I’m also trying not to listen to the news so much. Also not to spend so much time on social media. I have loads to do, knitting, sewing, puzzles, washing the car and sorting out my wardrobe. We also have 4 days of sunshine forecast for us in Devon so I need to add gardening to the list. I’m going to make a list tonight and try and do at least one productive thing every day!
I’m in Exeter but love Brixham! I used to be a regular visitor. There used to be a lovely fudge shop, part way up the hill on the left. Don’t know if it’s still there?
I think the organised holidays will be cancelled. I had booked a holiday cottage in Cornwall with daughter and her family for 8th May. We received an e mail yesterday saying all holidays booked with the company up to the end of April will be deferred to a later date. No news on ours yet but fully expecting that to happen.
I went on a lonesome walk yesterday and sat with the black swans at Dawlish having a cuppa. It was beautiful.
Hi Judy, thanks for your reply. There's a great fudge shop at the bottom of Fore St, they even put fudge in the bottom of ice cream cones, not sure about the other one you mention.
There have been reports of holidaymakers heading for the West Country but I think we will be in lockdown before the Easter hols.
Are you under the care of RD&E, if so I believe you have an MPN specialist there?
I'm ET JAK2 by the way(on Hydroxy), I was diagnosed last year. I generally feel well but get fatigued and have aching lower limbs.
The fudge shop I used to go to is probably long gone.
Yes, I’m with RD&E my consultant is David Veale, he heads the haematology unit since Malcolm Hamilton retired a couple of years ago. I’m very happy with him. Jason Coppell is an MPN specialist, I’ve never met him. They both cover North Devon hospital too. I’ve always had excellent care there and have no complaints. I’ve been on telephone consults since last June, just go to pick up my prescriptions.
I’m PV Jak2, 14 years and on Hydroxy for the past 7 years, I’ve always kept well apart from fatigue and occasional itching. I have more problems from RA, (28 years) on Methotrexate for that.
Torbay Hospital care has been good although first consultant was a bit dismissive, however, the one I've got now seems very good. I've just gone onto quarterly bloods at the surgery, which makes life easier.
Waiting to see now if we get letters this week, it sounds like we will.
I've got 3 boys at home off school so I may well need a padded cell when this is all over!!
Hi Piggie,My daughter is in U K ,I am in France ,so used to not seeing her & James, they don't have children,so I don't miss being granny either!!!Shame for those who miss family, but it's best to stop this virus killing us vulnerable people off ,I want a little more time !!
Keep well and busy,we can all keep each other going on site.Sally,by the way we shout at the T V and we both talk to ourselves ,hubby in bureau ,me in studio......normal I hope !
Oh Judy you made me smile... I talk to Alexa too, I ask her to tell jokes, I've set her up to say 'hello sunshine' at various times, I ask her random questions (like.... how deep is your love) so funny.
I say I’m home when I come in and she always answers pleasantly.
I also have a dot in my bedroom and when I can’t sleep I play ocean music just on volume 1 . It’s like the waves coming up on the beach and receding. Very restful and she switches herself off after 1 hour. I’m always asleep by then. Rain Forrest is lovely too.
Well we have been in Lock down for a while now and people take it very seriously for the most part.We are vulnerable hubby and I ,so friends have brought supplies left at the driveway gates. There is a huge fine if you don't have your attestation form signed & filled in with your essential reason to be out.We are fairly isolated nearest neighbours fields away.Have horse & dog work to do,I have my sculpture and painting tho I think galleries &foundries might have difficulties.
How did all go for you Aime ,I am guessing O K as you haven't posted bad news!!!
Hi Sally, yes sorry I thought I had posted. Yes, relieved as the murmurs are down to blood flow and not dodgy valves so nothing needs done . One off my list!!xx🤣🤣😻😻
Oh that is good news! You must be so relieved...I was after my artery Doppler scan,I was shaking so much !the nurse had to help me dress and the artery specialist joked with my hubby that I was not pregnant!!!Keep well Aime ,maybe you did post ,I miss so much as our internet often disappears.Sally xxx
We are Lockdown here in Fr. I like being home anyway, horses dogs and my work, used to being on lonely farms too .This is different and worrying for us,Good you can enjoy painting,it's been my career since leaving college, you enter an entirely different world of your own, takes away other worries,so keep going with it....forme at the mo it's slower with foundries and galleries but I can keep on with what I want to do,more relaxing .Keep well Jilly.Sally
I understand , my husband has been recently diagnosed with ET, when we took a second opinion, the doc feels it could be masked PV. We are waiting for this corona crisis to get over so that we could follow this up. He has been in self quarantine for the past 2 weeks. I didn’t want to take any risk and expose him, though India has not declared itself in stage 3 of this pandemic.
I am angered when people take it easy and ignore health advisory. Hope the authorities bring about strict measures.
I would also like to know , whether 9.5 lakhs of platelet count is something to panic about?!
He was 5.1, 6.1, 7.75, 8.1 and after one week of hydroxy (500mg) it rose to 9.75. We r advises to check after 2 weeks. He is on ecosporin also. His bP is not under desirable limits, with meds it is around 155/100
I started isolate myself since last week and intend to do 12 weeks, I live in Australia, my haematologist from hospital gave me my appointment over the phone today, result are fine, he told me appointment in the next few months with all patients are over the phone only unless some special cases.
thank you my lovely. My mum is my world. She took my hands a few weeks ago and said she was frightened of dying alone. I held on to her so tightly and promised her I would be there when the time comes. The thought of not being able to be with her is torturing me, I can't help it xx
My lovely hubby bought me an art box a number of years ago that had acrylic and watercolour paint, oil pastels, coloured and regular pencils. I have knitted and crocheted all of my adolescent and adult life but after so many years my hands are feeling the wear and tear. I cannot sit and do nothing so I decided to get my art box out and teach myself to paint. If I knew how to do it I would post pictures of my early work but I haven't a clue. Everybody has that little something they can do and YouTube has video lessons on everything.
Lovely ideas to help keep our spirits up!! Art work and creative ideas can be great fun. I am trying simple mindful colouring and busy keeping up with phone calls to friends and family. Also trying to do indoor exercises, jumps and running on the spot etc!!
Hope we can all sing and enjoy lots of wonderful music whilst at home.
Such a wise message, we can support each other to make excellent use of time at home. It does take quite a bit of getting used to, but there a hundred and one things to enjoy and each of us not on the streets, help keep others safe.
I certainly think they should close essential shops. In some ways I seem busier than before all this, watching updates, phoning people and texting. Might try and join the online community choir and get some exercises off the telly if I have to isolate.
Interesting replies for me to read. I live in Atlanta, GA and some folks in the USA are really not taking this very seriously. My husband & I have been home for over a week, the exception being grocery shopping. My 91 year old mom has been reading a lot and watching plenty of DVDs in her rental place (part of a house) down the street from me. I visit her by standing outside and talking through her screen door.
Gardening is a big hobby of mine and there is a community garden right outside my back yard that I'm a big part owner of. So lots of things to do (always weeding!).
Apparently according to my neighbour all phone providers like EE, Vodafone etc are sending out a message from the government to all mobile phones. So I presume that if we are high risk and will be receiving a letter we will receive something extra.
