I phoned the clinical nurse early this morning, unfortunately it was the one who never does anything that answered. I told her how I felt, vomiting, spleen pain etc she just said ‘oh you’ve had a virus, vomiting makes your spleen enlarge, monitor it for a few days’.

I’m not happy with that answer (obviously) and I’ll phone back later when the senior nurse is in, she did say she would tell her but was adamant I’d had a virus. She may or may not mention it to her but I would like a person who knows what they’re talking about to know and who will note it down so I’ll call back later.

I’ve prepared a bag in case I do need to go into the hospital. My friends tell me I should I should always have one ready, now I know what they mean, I don’t think my husband would know what to pack!

Morning Lizziep.

I presume it’s your local hospital you’re having to ‘chase’ for answers? I realise you’re under ‘shared care’ with Guys.

Is it possible to contact Guys for some guidance in this situation?

Good luck, I hope you get the care you deserve.

Yes second opinion needed .. I don't see how proper diagnosis can be made on phone .Good idea to ring Guys . Or. I've found the clinical haematology nurse specialist at guys emails back quickly .she is so helpful.

I've got number if you want it .

I am hoping you have spoken to the senior nurse by now. The suggestion to consult with Guys sounds like good advice if you have not already done it.

I would not wait any longer for an appropriate response is the symptoms have not remitted. Suggest that you could seek care from an Urgent Treatment Center given what you are experiencing. Better safe than sorry in this situation.

Please let us know how things go.

Going to my local A & E would mean several hours waiting, and probably be sent home again. However this afternoon I do feel a lot better, my fuzzy head has gone, I’ve kept the toast I had earlier down and the spleen pain has lessened but not gone altogether.

I’ve spoken to the senior clinical nurse now and she went through all my symptoms and concluded as I feel so much better and the pain wasn’t going up into my shoulder that I had had a virus, apparently this is rife in this area at the moment, goodness knows how/where I’ve picked it up as I don’t mix that much. She is going to phone me before she goes home and again in the morning to check how I am. So I feel happier having spoken to her.

Thank you for everyone’s concern and good wishes.
