Morning folks,

I am not normally given to worrying, but after reading this morning in the Daily Mail, that if people over the age of 70 do not isolate when they tell us too and if caught being out and about we will be ( the mails words ) thrown in JAIL or fined a £1,000 pounds. how scaremongering is that. Although I am seventy, one I do not feel it, I keep fit eat well and enjoy my life to the full, grandchildren are more upset at not seeing myself and my husband, it make me feel that my generation are being thrown to the wolves and their is a lot out there who will take advantage of this.

Just had a conversation with my Chemo nurse, as I have my four monthly appointment Wednesday week, and has told me that I might get cancelled but as I take Hydroxycarbamide she suspects that I will just attend for a blood test and then either a letter or a telephone conversation regarding the results which I am fine with as the area in the hospital where we sit people use as a cut through from one side of the hospital to the other rather that going the long way round, and never use the hand sanitiser 😡

Anyway my rant is over, keep safe my friends.

Jean

So I heard a report that the Government is considering releasing prisoners from jail!! Now I realise they are making room for us over seventies if we are found out and about in the street, I live just by the sea , so will I be arrested if I cover up and I keep well away from anyone else close, by wearing a mask and get some fresh air, or will the same conditions apply if I go into the garden and clear up the winters work. Ridiculous.

But already an angel across the road has put notes through our door to say she will deliver milk, bread , collect and deliver prescriptions etc, if we want and she will leave it on the doorstep. Over the years I have always kept spares in the food cupboard so I never ran out and just bought another spare to replace the one I had used . My family have always thought I was mad . ha ha ......who's the ninny now. We haven't had to panic stock now.

My boys always said . mother we could survive a nuclear winter here. Now we might just have to.

I think the offices of the Daily Flail must have been infected with the RavingLuni virus. After reading that article I think you should take the following precautions:

1. Burn any copies that you have in your possession (preferably outside so that any stray embers containing infected text dissipate harmlessly)

2. Cancel any subscription to the offending 'rag'

3. If you want to go for a walk in a safe environment then do so - I certainly will.

As ever, take care, stay safe and be sensible (oh, and buy a different newspaper 😉)

John

I think the best thing is to avoid the tabloid press especially online- these sites have to get our notice by leading with controversial and scary headlines and are under a constant challenge to grab our attention!

Maz's link to the WHO guidelines is spot on (thank you Maz) and particularly this paragraph:

"3. Avoid watching, reading or listening to news that cause you to feel anxious or distressed; seek information mainly to take practical steps to prepare your plans and protect yourself and loved ones. Seek information updates at specific times during the day once or twice. The sudden and near-constant stream of news reports about an outbreak can cause anyone to feel worried. Get the facts. Gather information at regular intervals, from WHO website and local health authorities platforms, in order to help you distinguish facts from rumors."

It is difficult to do with the 24 hour news that constantly bombards us and when every news outlet be it paper/tv/radio/online are fixated by the virus. I personally am having to wean myself off my Radio4 news/TV news channels habit and listen to music and Radio4 Extra as alternatives.

We too had contact from a neighbour offering help if needed - I was terribly touched.

I know it's such a worrying time Jean.

I appreciate that you keep yourself fit and do not feel that you should be put into the group of vulnerable people but I am afraid this is going to happen.

I have ruminated over this for days and agree with the government. Today I think the figure was that 4 million people would need hospital treatment for this outbreak. Unfortunately the over 70's and people with undergoing health conditions could double that figure, or even more, and the treatment they would need would be a lot more intense than a younger, fitter individual. Resources are going to be limited so if it means that to help the NHS we isolate ourselves so as not to stretch the health service to breaking point, then, I am afraid we are going to have to suck it up and do it. Think about it, 4 months in isolation is better than eternity in a box. My garden is going to look amazing this year because I will be out there every sunny day. On those days when it is raining I will be creative indoors.

Do everything in your power to keep yourself safe Jean. You have a huge part to play in how this pans out for you.

Take care my lovely

Jill

Hi went into the garden today, mowed the lawn, dug over flower beds, weeded, and I felt really good afterwards especially being in The sunshine, and listening to the birds singing, I did not give any thought to the Coronavirus, it just felt so good being in the sunshine.

This storm will pass, and we WILL enjoy the sunshine once again.

Take care my friend.
