Well the lurgi season is on us again. Just got over one bout of feeling heady very achy legs etc. blow me down I feel another one coming on headache sore throat et al. I have ET and am on Hydroxy and aspirin.
What do you do to avoid theses bugs ? How do you cope.? We have to go out ..., can't stay in isolation to try to keep germ free. I constantly wash my hands and use antibacterial rub when I am out if I have a sandwich or eat anything. Apart from wearing a face mask don't know what other precautions we can take. I would be interested in hearing your views.

Absolutely,the minute the temperature drops,I am the same.We have gone from 30s to to chilly morns and evenings,22-25middle of the day,but it feels like minus to us.I immediately have sore chest,snuffles and ache so much have to force myself to move! Fresh Royal jelly is a great immune system booster,does really help,just didn't start it early enough,my French Dr and nurses advise it and to avoid crowded places run up to Noel,etc.Definitely too the hand antiseptic,after supermarket trolleys especially! I wish you well Sandy,give the Royal Jelly a try,hope you soon feel better,we have enough daily fatigue and so on without other maladies.Best wishes,oh and Olbas Oil to inhale is another help,to me any way soak a hanky at night next to pillow!!Sally
Perhaps what I say is not very helpful because you have been told it many times but, take care with your diet. Avoid all processed foods as much as possible. Eat fruit and vegetables, I try to stick to organic meat which means chicken most of the time. And I've discovered beans! I'm not good with fish so force myself to have salmon but do have tin of sardines. I also avoid milk as much as possible - I use organic sweetened soya milk. I spend more on food than friends do but feel it is worth it.
I don't seem to pick up much and travel abroad each year to places not thought of us very salubrious .... have noticed my neutrophils hover around 3/4 which I'm told is good news..
Thank you Sallie. I do do much of what you say I try to buy organic most of the time. Like you I don't have regular milk I use rice or almond. It's soup time so I will be chopping veg for that soon
I've just been laid low the past couple of days with a headcold - it has completely wiped me out, woke up feeling better this morning but still not great. Ironic thing was I only said to the missus last week about getting an appointment for the flu jab.
The worst for me has been the aching, I've been really suffering with aching bones anyway recently but the past 2 days have been hell!
I think its difficult to avoid catching a cold , we are in contact with other people all the time , but we can do our best to prepare in the event we catch something ! eat lots of fresh fruit n veg .i have been giving Flu jab because of cardiac risks as well as other ailments grand children are very good passing bugs on to us from schools , i try not to over heat my house and believe fresh air helps ! Zinc is good for imunne system vit c of course but i would say just try and generaly look after ourselves 🍹
I agree, its hard, we can eat plenty of fruit, vit c etc but if our immune systems are impaired they will only have a certain effect.
I think what we should be able to do, paid for by the government because we have a critical illness, is go live in cyprus or somewhere that stays fairly warm for 4 months a year...problem solved
Joking aside it is an issue, and its impossible to not be in contact with people who have colds. I would say stock up on the max strength flu and cold meds you can get so you have it ready just in case, get your flujab (should be free because of the illness), also ask about the pneumonia jab (lasts 10 years i think).
And also....i know it sort of goes against what you would think is right but a hot toddy really does work wonders...
whisky/brandy with either lemonade and a spoonfull of sugar or a teaspoon of honey - heated up...feels really good, works wonders for a sore throat and cold...take before bed and will help you sleep too.
Finally - if we do get a bug...i think one of the most important things is getting over it before we throw ourselves back into work etc....if your run down from one bug and dont allow your body to recover you will get the next one much easier. Im the worst person at following this advice but I know its true.
I sympathise, last autumn and winter I seemed to catch everything that was going! I paid to get the flu jab and at one point def had a flu of some kind. Was hoping it wasn't going to be a repeat this year.x best wishes hope we are all as healthy as we can be!xx Aime😺
Thank you Aime. Have not had flu jab yet, but did read on here that we should not have live vaccine, so have to enquire at surgery before rolling up my sleeve ! Free for me cos I am pensionable age. Sorry to hear you had a rough time last winter.hopefully this year you will be as germ free as poss. I have taken on board the kind suggestions above, and will be stocking up on potions.
