Polycythemia and Covid19

Hi everyone sorry I haven't been on here for a while but I am doing fine and still am poly Jak2 negative. My Venesections are now 4 weekly from 6 weekly previously and I am 9 years in treatment. The only change I have noticed in the last 6 months is a little weight loss but I'm not too bothered about that. I must admit I do worry about the Covid19 but i know this is the best place to get all the updates. Hope you all are keeping well and stay safe xx

Well Boznoz. I would say just ignore the scaremongers and carry on as normal. I think we’re all turning into hypochondriacs because of all this media hype and hysteria.

We will be FINE.

Failing that head for the Outer Hebrides and rent a shack overlooking the sea...........sorry, as you can guess this is all winding me up, and I think I’m going to delete further posts from Health Unlocked before I read them and send shirty and blunt replies to the community!

Apologies for lack of support and sympathy but I suggest we all look at the photos on the news of Idlib and count our blessings, there was a tiny baby on the news last night who had to have an eye removed because of shrapnel.

His father was weeping copiously, Now, they’re the folks I feel sorry for.

Let’s get a bloody grip for heavens sake. We have 60 million people in this country and so far 143 cases of Covid. If we end up with 50,000 cases it will still be a drop in the ocean. And only 2 % of those will pop their clogs. Most of those who die will be elderly with breathing or heart problems.

Chin up, stop worrying and move on.

With best wishes, honestly, Louise.

Although I would love to agree wholeheartedly with the keep calm and carry on mentality I have to say that as someone taking Ruxolitinib and having very low blood counts I will be taking some serious precautions. My sons are even questioning my presence at my youngest son’s wedding in May. I will keep an eye on the situation by then but they want to arrange some sort of video link for the wedding if we are unable to attend. My son almost reduced me to tears last night on the phone urging me to stay safe. I really don’t want to “pop my clogs” before my next grandchild arrives in the autumn.

Just saying😉

I know, I understand, Rux can lower your immunity more than Hydroxi.

But, we are 60 million in this country and so far we have how many cases? 160?

I wouldn’t panic just yet, not get upset, not listen to ANYONE else.

Don’t let the media or anyone you know instigate sleepless nights or worry, it simply isn’t worth it.

Wait and see. May is a couple of months away and this could all fizzle out.

Nothing is worth worrying yourself into a stew about and the media have stirred up mass hysteria. Forgive me if I’m wrong. ( ask my husband I’m never wrong 😂😂😂😂)

A new grandchild. Wonderful. AND you’ll be here to see him/her get married and don’t think otherwise!

We have 14 month old twin grandsons. Keeps us on our toes.....

xx

I know Louise that it is important to keep all this in proportion but as the folk who are dying from this are mostly reported to have underlying health problems I think it is wise in my case to take this seriously and act accordingly. My white cell count is often under 2 and my neutrophils hover at around 0.5/0.6 meaning that IF I should contract the virus I have very little in my armoury to fight it. I will try and take all the precautions I can to protect myself. I am not working myself up into a frenzy of worry about it all and not losing sleep but on the other hand I just don’t want to catch the virus!

Understood. As far as I can gather, though of course we’re never told, the folks who are dying have breathing problems and or heart conditions.

Look after yourself.
