Hi I wonder if anyone can advise me about my husband

He has what is called apparent polycythemia has had venesection sin the past but is just being monitored by GP . They are happy with him .

I notice that he has said fairly low B12 blood count and with everything I have read and know it would be wise to supplement .

Does anyone have experience of this and is it wise to do so .

His level is 302 and all that I read it should be at least 500 .

I notice he has symptoms and want to help if poss.

Thanks in advance.

Definitely raise with your haematologist or GP. Certainly the team at Guy’s were very happy to investigate. (My levels were fine.) Others on this Forum mention having B12 injections. I believe if counts are low then the jabs can make a real difference to sense of well-being.

Hi...mine was 220 which is still technically above the threshold. Many docs won't do anything unless below 150 so I pressed my haematologist to consider it and he put me on injections. I was originally diagnosed with PV but as all tests came back negative this is now ET which is secondary polycythaemia.

Hi. I have E.T. I receive B12 very 3 months. It makes a real different for me. I know when I need it because I get very tiered. Once I get the injection within 3/4 day I feel much better. I have asked my doctor for folic acid 5mg now as it helps with bone ache/ arthritis.
