My wife has had an M.P.N for over five years and at present takes Busulfan, but only when her platelets are high.
She has had two mini strokes (T.I.A.s) the last one about a year ago and was prescribed Statins and Clopidogrel.
When her prescription was renewed, she received a text telling her that she had also been prescribed Lansoprazole for tummy protection.
According to the N.H.S medicines site, Lansoprazole can be taken when a medicine is required for indigestion for patients taking Clopidogrel . However my wife will need to take Clopidogel on a long term basis and with their being dangers when taking Lansoprazole long term, this seems to be overkill!
There is no problem with Busulfan and Lansoprazole.
Has anybody been in a similar situation and what was their experience?

I have ET (JAK2+) and also had a TIA. Amongst other things I take daily hydroxycarbamide and clopidogrel. My GP added Lansoprazole to the mix about a month ago to protect my stomach from potential damage from clopidogrel, which was reasonable as I had epidural ulcers as I had epidural ulcers many years ago.
However, over the last week I've been getting bloating and stomach pain, which I initially thought might be a virus but I'm beginning to think it might be an intolerance to Lansoprazole or a reaction with my other drugs. I've decided to stop taking Lansoprazole for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
I would also be interested to hear if anyone else has concerns about Lansoprazole.
My wife is treated with Busulfan, which is a chemotherapy, when her platelets increase until her platelets reduce to a acceptable level. She then has her platelets checked on a regular basis. She last received treatment 4 months ago and when last checked three days ago were 392.
I was prescribed clopidogrel but not the lanzaprazole, I was on on it, I didn't have any indigestion, it's not as savage as ordinary aspirin. Try it without , and if you get indigestion, try with lanzaprazole.
My husband has been taking Lansoprazole & Clopidogrel for almost 2 yrs together but lately we have noticed he is having sweats at night , doctor has now told him to stop taking Lansoprazole every day & just take when needed, its only been a week & he said they are not as bad , So maybe its getting better will keep you in formed
My wife was prescribed Famotidine 40mg as a replacement, these were fine, taking them as necessary. However when she was due for a repeat prescription, she was told it was out of stock. It is now back in stock and she is waiting to collect it from the pharmacy.
In the interim, she had a Trebor mint, when she had discomfort, which seem to work but she prefers the drug.
Its all trial & error at the moment. can only get a phone consultation with the GP; have tried to narrow it down with his BP tablets but it not them, So he does now think its the Lansoprazole as I said I will keep you informed , He will check on your advise about Famotidine thanks
I have been taking Clopidogrel and Pantoprazole together for 27 months. I’m concerned too about long term effect on PPI. Will try to stop with it for a period and se what happens.
