Leg Pain / Cramps

Another night of excruciating leg pains / cramps, is anyone on medication that actually helps with pain? I have MPL/ET on Peg @ LD Aspirin, for pain relief I take co-codamol & co-drydamol. I’m getting really fed up of this pain.

I suffer from this also. I use a spray of magnesium oil- available from Holland and Barrett or online. I have found this helps a lot though it can still catch me out sometimes.

Thank you I’ll try that. Thank you for replying.

Also suffer bone pain in my legs. I am prescribed Zapain x2 at night and morning. It help just enough for me to sleep and function throughout the day but doesn’t totally take away the pain.

Thank you for replying, I think Zapain is the same as co-codamol which I have tried and it does help. Thank you. Raff

Yes it is the same it’s just a bit stronger dose at 30/500 for each tablet

I’m a huge proponent of natural remedies since meds all have side effects. You are already taking strong meds for the ET. Better to not add to that, which can also have cross effects between the drugs themselves. I only use drugs/chemicals when there is no other way. I use golden milk, which I make with 3-4g turmeric powder, dash of pepper 2 drops oil, 1cup of very warm rice milk or milk and honey to taste. It works wonder for my whole family: headache, tooth ache, slipped disc, period pain, everything. This is an antioxidant also, therefore take min. 2 hours after or before your meds! For crippling fibromyalgia pain (my daughter 15) the only thing that works and has absolutely no side effects is CBD from the doctor (good source). There are many sources that are starting to sell lower grade products. Careful. Also, I wear support socks to the knee 140den and if necessary, during the night. That helps the swelling and circulation immensely. I feel alive again instead of dragging my legs and body around. Hope to have helped! Anag

Hi Raphael,

I'm not sure if this is the same pain I'm suffering of. I get the pain only if I use my muscles so my doctor prescribed Chinin and it helped a bit.

Cheers,

Malek.

Hi,

Are you eating enough salt?

I had my haemo check my salt levels at my last appointment and they were too low - hence the ghastly cramps I had - salt is measured per litre of blood I believe.

Buy decent salt, I use Helen Mon sea salt which is mild and pure, and it isn’t full of the usual rubbish contained in table salt. Have a look on google.

Just a thought, you never know.

I’ve had PV for ten years by the way.

You have my sympathy, leg cramps can be excruciating.

Louise

A product called CALM, basically, it is a flavored magnesium drink and you can drink it as a hot tea or cold drink at night an hour before bed. But, also, be sure to drink your quota of water each day. Best wishes!

Thank you for the advice, I’m quite sure that I don’t drink enough, I need to discipline myself to drink more. Thank you. Raff

I persevered the pain through polycythemia although now have moved on to myelifibrosis. Dr prescribed Gabapentin so I take 300 mg night and morning and it has reduced my pain considerably. Hope this helps

I get leg pain too and what really helps me is to elevate my legs and use a heating pad. The heat really helps tale the pain down.. it has become a nightly routine to get in bed, put my feet up on a pillow- with a heating pad under my calves/feet. It takes an hour or more but it really helps!!!

Raphael_UK profile image

Thank you for that, do you use an electric heat pad or microwave pad?

JenngeetingR828 profile image

I use an electric one because it literally takes so long for the pain to fade and electric lasts longer. In fact.. it’s night time where I am now and I’m in bed with my heating pad on my feet! I literally feel like it soothes the pain / helps it

Great thank you, I’ll get one.

I too have been awake several times last night with cramp in every muscle of my legs, one after another, the pain would not stop, so I know exactly what you mean.

I know the reason I got the cramp was because I didn’t drink enough water yesterday, I was out all day, did a lot of walking and forgot to take a bottle of water with me. I tried to catch up later but too late. I take Himalayan salt and also magnesium, but it’s water that is most important. I have always been susceptible to cramp, but if I keep hydrated and with the salt and magnesium I don’t get it.

Take a look at Barbara O’Neil on you tube, talking about the importance of water, it’s very interesting.

That’s my problem, I just don’t like drinking water. Hope things get better soon.

I have suffered with these leg pains on and off for years. Recently I bought a tub of vitamin B COMPLEX from BOOTS chemist. I don’t know why I just bought them in a desperate attempt to rid these pains. I have not had any pains for almost 2 months which is a huge breakthrough and it has helped immensely with the fatigue I get that accompanies the leg pains . I shall continue taking it with my fingers crossed .

Maybe worth a try if you are still suffering x

Hi, it comes and goes now so I do get some relief. I got vitamin B and folate supplements, magnesium, quinine and omega 3 complex. Something is working as I am a lot better, I’m not sure which supplements are helping. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
