Hi Hahag, if you are having any type of chest pain you should call an ambulance straight away, do not ignore chest pain. Maz

No cardiac issues for me in the 4 years I’ve been on Peg and I’ve not heard of it as a common side effect so it may not be related. Get it checked out urgently though!

I also had tachycardia when on Pegasys. After a echocardiogram on my heart they found that I had a pedicardial and pleural effusions round my heart and lungs and I spent 2 weeks in hospital on a cardiac critical care ward being given a mix of potent antibiotics. Pegasys was stopped immediately on admission to hospital as they strongly suspected it was the cause.

My reaction to Pegasys is very rare and you may be different, but please keep pushing your doctor to find the underlying cause.

Hi HaHag,

I also had ecg’s before the Echocardiogram finally identified the real issue.

Try and push for a ECHOcardiogram.

ECG, (electrocardiogram) is not as effective in identifying Pericarditis if that is the issue you have.

I hope this helps.

Hello...the only issue I had was hyperthyroidism...it's caused a fast heart rate.

I've been on peg for 12mth and it has normalised all my bloods.

Hi Hahag. I’m an Australian visiting Bristol. I’ve been on weekly Pegasys injections for a year (90 mcg) and 6 weeks before flying out I moved to fortnightly injections (of 90 mcg). I flew into London three and a half weeks ago from Sydney and on the bus from Heathrow to Bristol started to get neck and then chest pains. I dismissed these initially as a result of lifting a heavy suitcase and a 23 hour flight. The symptoms worsened and an eventual stint in the Bristol Royal Infirmary two days later ruled out heart attack and a clot on my lung, but it seems I had viral pericarditis ( a viral infection of the pericardium which is the sack that your heart sits in).

It seems that very occasionally Pegasys can cause pericarditis. I’m not sure as to what this means for me now re other episodes and the impact on future long haul flights now that I have had pericarditis. But questions such as these will will be dealt with when I next see my haematologist in early December. Hope this info helps.

So sorry to hear you have had these problems while in the U K.

You may remember I phoned you before you left about your transition to Peg,

Do hope things are now improving and you get back here safely.

Best wishes,

Katie
