Hi, I've PV and initially I was treated with venesections and aspirin (now on hydrea and warfarin due to blood clots). My haemotologist told me that after a venesection my platelets and white blood cells will rise (the body sees the venesection as loss of blood due to injury and tells itself to make more platelets to clot closed the wound and white blood cells to fight infection from the injury).
