ET diagnosis - getting life insurance

Hi - I’m a 44 year old male and I’ve recently been diagnosed with ET. I don’t have life insurance unfortunately, and have been told I won’t be accepted (for life insurance) until it’s been 12 months since my diagnosis. I have a wife and baby boy and am keen to hear any tips/ideas to get covered ASAP. And also any advice re who to contact. I also hear that ET is sometimes paid out as a critical illness, so am gutted I didn’t do life insurance prior to my diagnosis! Hindsight is a great thing huh!?

I have ET and no company will insure me. Unfortunately my insurance expired the year before Diagnosis. People do claim on their insurance for ET and are usually successful. If I’d known the year before I’d have got £14,000

Hi, I got Whole of Life insurance at the age of 54, and with PV, with Engage Mutual. I had to pay a little more but you do with any insurance company that covers you until you die. Be careful, a lot of companies stop covering you in your 80’s or earlier despite paying for years. Good luck, hope this helps x

Maybe a broker will insure you with the exclusion of ET.

You are right though. It goes to show how important it is to take put life insurance at an early age. You just don’t know what’s around the corner.

We found this when wanting to move house. My husband had had cancer and we couldn’t increase the level we had. Luckily enough his mortgage insurance cover was ample. I assume in lots of cases it isn’t.

Not sure where you are but if you’re in the UK I hope this may help.

I have life cover with Legal & General, taken out 12 years ago at age 50 and with my ET accepted.

Some insurers wouldn’t cover me but L&G were happy to do so in return for an increased monthly premium.

Keep shopping around and if necessary try a specialist broker such as The Insurance Surgery - I didn’t use them in the end as another broker found me a slightly cheaper deal but they did come up with some offers that included cover for ET.

Good luck

Andy
