MCHC LOW

Hi

I am new here I have had Labs that have been going up slowly since 2015(hematocrit hemoglobin RBC , Just received my new lab work back hematocrit was 47.2 and RBC and hemoglobin was down slightly but did notice that my MCHC was low now I think that is the reason why I have been feeling fatigued and dizzy. Is this normal for this to go up and down and is this the cause of the lowered RBC and hemoglobin now?

Hey Summer... :-)

Loads of things can cause tiredness and fatigue...

If you are still concerned that you might have an MPN, you might ask to be tested for the other known 'Driver Mutations' that are generally found w/ all MPN patients.

You say that your JAK2 test was negative. Congrat's by the way, because that might well be a really good thing...

The other known 'Driver' mutations are:

* MPL

* CALR

However, there are some who are also 'Triple Negative' for all three too...

What are your medical team saying about all of this at this juncture Summer?

Best wishes

Steven

To those who are triple negative, If your Haemo still says you have PV, insist on a Bone Marrow biopsy. You probably have SP and if he is treating you for PV he could be slowly killing you. They are not the same !

Hi DoubtingT, for those people who may not know, can you explain what SP is, thank you, Maz

SP Secondary Polycythemia, in no way related to PV other than it can cause elevated Hct/Hgb. As the name implies it is caused by a secondary condition which causes your body to overproduce red blood calls. If you can identify the cause then you may have a good chance of controlling the condition. However some causes can be very obscure to identify, which is probably why some medicos don't bother investigating too far and just treat it the same as PV.... Not good, if you have SP your body is making those cells for a reason, excessive venesections to remove blood will make you anemic ~ loss of energy etc.

Do you have an MPN? Another cause of dizziness is anemia, if you have had or are having venesections than your iron level will be low. MCHC is a calculated value based on your hematocrit level and Hgb level, Hgb Level * 100/hematocrit. There are other blood diseases that can cause this low reading as well. Good Luck in your search for a prognois!
