Hi! I recently went the the doctor for a normal checkup...
My blood work was 15000 wbc .. and 403 platelet count...
I’ve been reading things on the internet that is scaring me really badly.
I’m going for a CT scan this week ... just wondering if anyone could tell me anything... thank you...😞
The very first thing I’ll say is do NOT Google this stuff. The information you’ll get is conflicting, confusing, often scary (needlessly)). The first thing is to talk to your doc which I’m sure you’ll be doing shortly after your CT scan. Your platelet count is only very marginally above the “normal” range so that shouldn’t be too worrying. Re the WBC, talk to your doc and try not to refer to info on the Internet. It just won’t help.
I know it's hard, but try not to worry, a high white blood cell count may indicate that the immune system is working to destroy an infection or even may be being caused by physical or emotional stress, it's not always a sign of the more serious stuff. Sometimes reading information on line can cause stress, so much of what you read is either wrong or out of date. Also when you look up things on line it inevitably tells you just the serious things and never the many & more likely, trivial things.

Hi: Let me add my voice to the chorus -- stay away from the internet until you've had a chance to talk to your doctor. It isn't easy to do -- waiting for some kind of solid explanation when all you have are numbers that could mean anything is just awful, and you have my sympathy. But your research efforts can easily lead to unnecessary stress instead of any real answers. Best of luck and let us know what you find out.

I'm a bit confused about your white count. Should there be a decimal point in there. Normal range is 4 to 10 so I'm wondering if you mean 15 I've been up to 30 and docs not concerned. Carry on googling you get far more info there than you will from the doctors who think we shouldn't know what's going on with our own bodies, just use reliable sites and common sense

Yes. Make sure your websites are reliable, else you can terrify yourself for nothing. With experience and a good dose of common sense, you will be better able to navigate. Most doctors will not tell you very much, even if you ask. Try to find one that listens and doesn’t try to push you out of the office, if they are busy.
Experience: In January, i started a parasite cleansing with a reputable doctor. On the 3rd day, I was slurring, my knees were like rubber and I couldn’t coordinate my hands or thoughts. I immediately looked into internet and found info on this product that had been imported from Italy from the pharmacy. It had already been pulled from German speaking market (Germany, Switzerland, and Austria- where I live), 3 years ago. Why? 1/10 patients suffered severe neurological damage! The list of side effects was horrific. The package list in Italian only (I speak Italian) was tiny. Nothing close to serious. I also found out, that it has a half life of 1.5 days!!! I immediately ate 12 Brazilian nuts (a selenium bomb) and then simmered a few sage leaves and drank it throughout the day to bind and remove that poison from my body ASAP! Hours later, the doctor got back to me, with a lame excuse.
15 WBC is usually nothing to fear. Unusually infection. Wait and see what you me doctor says. Cheers, JBivens!
Have you been diagnosed with an MPN?

Hello, my brother had a high WBC count very high way higher then yours for years, turns out he does not have an MPN, he has a different rare disease that is pretty much benign or a lot less harmless then an MPN. It is called Waldenstrom. I had cancer before an MPN was diagnosed and they always said "it is not cancer until the biopsy confirms it". So get the test first it could be something else that is causing your platelets and WBC to rise and by the way that is hardly high platelets. In the US the BW is high when it is over 450. Good luck and do not google things. Google is not a Doctor.
Since there has been no diagnosis, I agree with the others. Best to wait until you have seen an 'authority' face to face and leave the internet alone until you have. Try not to worry - easier said than done - but, even if you do have an MPN, many of us manage well leading a relatively normal life thanks to treatment.
You MUST have a genetic blood test for the JAK 2 ( mutation) to confirm MPN.This is only way to confirm PV,ET or MF.It takes a while to do the test and is expensive if not funded.
Your platelet count at 403 is within the normal range (150 to 450). Infection and autoimmune conditions can raise white blood counts, so as others have pointed out try not to worry too much.
Since you have not been diagnosed with an MPN - don't worry! There are a million things that can spike your counts. As others have pointed out a (slightly) elevated platelet count means nothing and a high WBC could just mean an infection.
And don't trust the internet - remenber, 92.7% of the statistics you see on the internet are just made up out of thin air..
BTW - here's another possibility - corticosteroids e.g., dexamethasone or betamethasone that the doctor might give you an injection of for a sore elbow or knee. It's well documented in the research literature that they can stimulate erythropoiesis - production of blood cells. I have PV but I'm stable, but recently I got a dexamethasone shot and in 6 days my WBC went from 11,000 to 16200, and my Hct went from 42.6 to 46.2.

I got a CT scan of my abdomen and everything was normal.
About a week and half ago I done another CBC.
Everything went back to normal except the wbc. It went from 16 to 12.
My doctor still wants to send me to a specialist. I’m terrified and I can’t seem to make myself make the appointment. I’m just so scared and depressed.
