Does anyone else have a whooshing and pulsing sound in their ears? It used to happen every now and then but I’ve had it virtually constantly for the last 3 days and it’s driving me mad!!
Not sure if this is related to PV or not?
Thanks Louise x

Yes I've got it, had it for nearly 2 years. The haematologist thought it may be caused by the aspirin. I have ET not PV. I recommend that you try to relax into it. I hardly notice it nowadays.
Not sure if we talked about this before. But my whooshing /pulsating sound started about a month ago after my doctor increased my Ruxolitinib for my PV. It comes and goes and matches my heartbeat. I’m going to my primary care doctor tomorrow to get a referral to an ENT doctor, although I’m sure it’s nothing.
Yes I had it for many years until I started my aspirin & drank more water then it disappeared. I have ET.
Aspirin tends to cause ringing in the ears but not the whooshing with each pulse.
Hi Louise
I’ve had these symptoms in my right ear for 14 years , mine is tinnitus, it sounds like u may have tinnitus, mine isn’t anything to do with my ET ,
Hopefully it isn’t tinnitus as there isn’t any cure 😩 , good luck
Daz
Thanks all for your response. I’m on apixaban but not aspirin. Mine matches heartbeat too! Please let me know what you’re doctor says.
Thanks x
I am on Ruxo and aspirin for Myelofibrosis and have had the same pulse in my left ear in time with my heartbeat for over a week - but a blood transfusion on Wednesday seems to have stopped it - perhaps it’s anaemia causing your problem...?
Hi Louise. My wife has had this phenomenon a number of times, it always coincides with low hgb, most recently when it had dropped to below 90g/L. A week after her iron infusion it went. I am informed by Joyce that I have read somewhere that low iron does cause this whooshing noise, but I can't remember where. Her HGB is "normally" around 108g/L so a bit on the low side anyway. Maybe have a FBC and go from there? Wishing you all the best, Steve and Joyce.
Mine is directly linked to my Hgb count. The lower my Hgb the louder and more persistent the thumping in my ears. I agree it drives me crazy too
Yes I get it too but always have thought it was high blood pressure. Never occurred to me it could be linked to MPN
Yes, I've just posted my symptoms but forgot to mention this. I have a low thrumming and swooshing noise in my head on a daily basis. Last year had my ears tested three times as thought I was losing my hearing. I often put the subtitles on tv because I can't quite make out what's being said. Was diagnosed with ET at the end of February after experiencing symptoms for years.
Hi Louise
I have PV and I have the whooshing , pulsating noise too.
I've had Tinnitus for about 15 years, but this is a different noise and sensation, I've had this new one for the last 6 months, it started as an on/off thing, then for the last 3 weeks I've had it almost constantly.
I've lived with my tinnitus and have learned to block it most of the time (night time is worse), but this new whooshing thing is driving me nuts!
I'm on Aspirin and venesection only at present.
GP says if I still have it in a months time he's going to refer me to ENT, but I'm going to tell my haem at the next appointment end of April.
Hope yours is better, I keep thinking 'oh it's gone' then a few days/weeks later it's back!
Not sure if PV to blame, but it is weird!
Jacqui 😊
Hi, yes, I've had that off and on for a long time. I always think it's when my counts get high and I need a phlebotomy, but not sure. Good luck!
