Can we take melatonin if we have high platelets?
Taking Melatonin prescribed by my GP last year for sleeping made my platelets soar from around the 700's up to 1.2 Million, and it took months for them to come back down. They sometimes use melatonin to keep cancer patients platelets up when they get too low. Wouldn't touch them again. My GP had no idea, so dangerous and I felt so sick also.

Thanks for the information Fernie, I hadn't realised that melatonin could do this. Whilst it looks like something to avoid if our platelets are high, it looks a potentially useful thing for people who's counts are very low. I had melatonin a few years ago for sleep problems, and I had wondered about trying it again! Thanks for the warning, I will steer well clear of it!
Thanks Fernie it’s interesting to see this perspective! On the Facebook groups for people with mpns it seems that everyone has no idea that melatonin has this effect and so many are using it regularly. Some people have in fact been prescribed it by their doctors. Do you know of anything that we can take that helps with sleep? I’ve always had issues with sleep now and then so when I found melatonin I was so thankful!
