I have two questions which I've been pondering about recently :
1. I've been donating blood for most of my grown up life, but stopped some 5 years ago. I have ET and I'm on Pegasys. Does anyone know if I could take up the donations again ?? Not for blood, of course, but for plasma ?????
2. Is there any difference, in the process itself, between donating blood and a venesection ???--- and what about in the amount of blood ??
Hope someone in here know about this

Thanks for the reply, Sarah No I meant donating blood for the plasma production (I have done that before at the hospital).
Ok !! But I donated blood for at least 7 years before the docs found out that I had ET. A bit spooky then !! I better ask one of the "vampyres" at the hospital
Thanks a lot Andy !! I'm from Denmark, and I fear the rules are the same then, but as I wrote to Sarah_786, it seems like they do not check at all !! Ok-- I won't lie to them if there should be any risk of harming other people !!
Thanks -- It makes it sound like we'll all end in some sinister abattoir !!! I suppose they think of the "over worked" organs like liver, kidneys and spleen ? Don't you ? I can't see they could have any reason denying our brains
Anyway-- organ donation is not me. I believe in reincarnation and would hate to be more defect in my next life, that I already am !!!
Thanks Wyebird --- I talked to a professor about it. He said that it has nothing to do with what you take, only about how long the stuff takes to "leave" your body. So if you know and can prove that the day you are donating, you'll be clean as a newborn fairy--- you can donate as much as you want (as long as it doesn't harm you seriously).
Ok-- he's a rough old goat, having spent most of his life in war zones, but still !!
Why I asked, was because I have friends in war plagued countries and if I could have some clean days each month I would do what I could to give blood !! (ok-- it'll end us as plasma).
In the UK they dont want our rotten old blood , they wont even give it back to me for the roses. I also gave blood for 25 years and venesections are no different except these days they use a small canula rather than the big needle used for donations. I am also on th organ donors list but Prof Harrison thinks they would risk our organ bits. I must admit if I was on the kidney waiting list I would risk it.
A bit arrogant, isn't it How come ??? -- In DK they seemingly never get enough !! Do you think they are selling plasma-- or use it in the industry ??? Spooky !
Thanks for your reply -- have a great Sunday. And don't worry-- one day they'll come wriggling to bed for your blood !!
Hi With or without an MPN, we cannot give blood if we have had an injection, even at the dentist, within a certain period of time. We are injecting regularly, so that in itself would negate our right to give blood or anything else.
