hi all hope you all had a lovely Christmas !!! Well after waiting for letter about a venesection got it at last so because my blood level was 48 % when tested two weeks ago I have to get blood drawn on Thursday 29th then the following Thursday. Can’t think this is right I can’t be sure but in the 10 years since being diagnosed with Pv Vera I haven’t had two so close together I can’t help thinking after someone cocked up ..since Covid things have gone downhill. Oops rant over😂my question was anyone had two bloods off in a week thanks 👍🏻

venesection
Me! I'm off all meds and I had a venesection for 2 wks on the trot. HCT 48. Next is booked 9th January and that's due to Xmas and me being in Tenerife over Xmas 😁Seasons greetings 🎄
.
Hi. Been having venesections for around the same time. If I have venesections too close together my platelets go up too high. I normally leave5-6 weeks between venesections which seems to suit me and balance better. each venesections drops my haematocrit around 2 %, and although my target is 45 I usually have levels around 47. The people that book or even do the venesections don't always understand the full story - I always like to stay in control....
My husband HCT level is around 45 . When he was first diagnosed it was around 58.
At one point my husband.had them weekly then fortnightly then monthly when they managed to get his hemocratic level down.
Now.hes on ruxolitnib he's never had a venesection for almost four years now .

I never did them more often than every 3 weeks apart.
The more frequent venesection schedules are for when a very rapid reduction in erythrocytosis is needed. Not sure that your situation meets this criteria. You are correct to question this schedule if you do not think that you situation merits two venesections so close together. Note that I always did a CBC between venesections to see if they were needed.
Suggest you speak directly to the prescriber who ordered the venesections. You need a clear answer to your question, not just a letter. You are asking a very reasonable question and deserve a clear answer.
Hi Badger,
I have not been drawn as frequently as I was told that I needed to be, because when there was any more than a few days between when the CBC was drawn and the phlebotomy appt I'm given, I have insisted that they do another CBC prior to subjecting me to the vampires.
Especially since I am still on my Besremi up-titration, and the HCT's seem to have responded [at least temporarily] by dropping back close to target after each incremental increase [usually 50 mcg] each month [or every 2 doses] thus far.
Each time my Hct has self-corrected enough that I didn't get drained- although once when it went from [either] 48 or 49, to 45, the infusion center nurses wanted to [had been ordered to] drain me anyway, because the parameter they were given to not perform phlebotomy was <45... I refused anyway.
Thus, I highly recommend that you 'strongly protest' [ala "a Few Good Men"] if they propose to drain you without checking your current HCT first.
Best,
PA
hi Badger, this may be an administrative error, so best to check with the department about the 2 appointments. Best wishes, Maz
at Hct of 48 two venisections so close is red flag, best check on it
I’m having venesections twice a week. Between Christmas and the new year I was in hospital having them twice a day.
