Has any one been told not to take Ibuprofen (NSAID) for pain relief for PV symptoms?

Pain meds for PV symptoms
Yes that is right. My consultant told me to avoid them. Use paracetamol instead.
I have just taken 1 as I had run out of paracetamol. I have not taken it for 8 years . I am pain free for the first time in years . I presume the risk of bleeding is increased and that is why we should not take it .
Hi Titatagg, are you taking Aspirin?
Most people with P.V. take aspirin to thin the blood. I was told that if you're taking Aspirin then you shouldn't take Ibuprofen as well. I believe you'll find it on the safety sheet included with the Aspirin. I have read that I can have Paracetamol if I required extra pain relief, headaches etc
Prior to my P. V. diagnosis I was taking Nurofen as a primary pain reliever without problems but if you're unsure then consult your doctor.
Best wishes
Andy
Yes I have been told not to use Ibuprofen
I brought this up with my haematologist as I had also read that we shouldn’t take ibuprofen when taking aspirin. But he basically said ‘what are you talking about?’ and said it wasn’t a problem. Maybe cardioaspirin is too small a dose to be a problem?
Yes, been told not to use. I think it may because of the Asprin.
I think age is a factor too
Ibuprofen is not recommended for over 65s . My GP moved me off aspirin and on to Clopidogrel for blood 'thinning' and prescribed codein for pain management

Hi. I was told not to take it because it’s a blood thinner.
I've also been told not to take it. But, as others have said I have taken it recently. I have a painful neck/shoulder and paracetamol doesn't touch the pain...so much so that I couldn't do my physio exercises. Within 30 minutes of taking one ibruprofen I felt relief. I'm waiting for some pain relief magnets to arrive (I've used them before and they worked) so fingers crossed they'll help again.
I was told if I was on aspirin then to take paracetamol and not ibuprofen. However, if for some reason I have needed to take an NSAID drug then I have stopped the aspirin. Obviously you should take advice before doing this.
I am on clopidogrel and was told not to take ibuprofen. I get paracetamol and codeine on prescription.
My husband is not on aspirin but nevertheless must not take NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen due to his having low platelets -increases the risk of bleeding.
Yes, I was told I can only take paracetamol and definitely non ending in 'fen'. Best wishes
I took it for months for sciatica and ended up in an ambulance because of a severe nose bleed. I had to have nasal tampons inserted up my nose followed by the nose being cauterized. A night mare. I won't touch it now and just put up with the pain.
