Why you take Atorvastatin in such big dose....? It is equivalent to 160mg simvastatin.

I had a CT angiogram which shows my main LAD artery badly calcified the score was 538 with mixed plaque and the diagonal artery the same

I just done CT Calcium Score test 2 months ago with result score 106.It show some plaque too.

I am taking brazilian nuts 3 pcs perday as a trial to remove the plaque and natto to make the vascular more elastic.

Tumeric to reduce the inflamation.

I will let you know if it work.

Cheers

I am also on 80 mg atorvastatin and 75 mg clopidogrel + blood pressures meds and I have PV. I was put on the statin and another blood thinner before clopidogrel after having a heart attack in 2021. Resulting blood work after the heart attack was what gave me the PV diagnosis, which in turn was likely the cause of the heart attack, I assume. I take Jakafi/Rux to control the PV (very successfully). I don't have any balance or muscle issues. I'm 61, and I do find that I need to exercise more to build/maintain muscle or it just vanishes, and I tend to lose weight if I don't monitor it. Yoga has been great to help with balance and I try to do weights at the gym and in exercise classes to help with the inevitable muscle loss as we age. This is a battle, but these strategies are working for me, so far! I haven't associated any balance or muscle loss issues with the drugs. I did move from a stronger blood thinner (Brillinta) to clopidogrel after having problems with bleeding if I cut myself and excessive bruising. Do speak to your doctors, and good luck to you!

Hi, I took Atorvastatin few years back but had to stop due to severe muscle pain. So many suffer side effects from statins and impo they are prescribed too often. I read the Great Cholesterol Myth 2nd edition and it was a real eye opener. As long as my HDL and Triglycerides levels are ok, which can easily be controlled with the correct diet etc. We all need cholesterol to maintain healthy organs and I will never take them again. Of course, this is just my opinion and each to their own. Good luck.

Excelent👍

The different of cholesterol between people who take statin and not just about 4%.

Almost 80% of cholesterol made by our own body, left the 20% from food.

Yes, our brain need a lot of cholesterol.

Simple change to healthy diet and avoid processed foods, sugar, seed oil, will make the ratio in balance.

Cheers

Hi, I was diagnosed with PV August 23 and high cholesterol (family history of) April 23, for which I take aspirin and Lipitor respectively. Side effects - occasional bouts of indigestion. Been taking Metformin since Sunday (17/11) due to recent T2 diagnosis. Increasing from 1 tablet a day to 4 over this week and next 3. Very early days, but a side effect might be balance issues. On 3 occasions when I’ve bent over I felt as though I might tip over and fall. No muscle issues as such, but I do get restless legs. PV, diabetes and Metformin all produce fatigue…Good luck speaking with your Clinical Team.

highly recommend the books by Dr Malcolm Kendrick on statins. He took a deep dive into them with all the pros and cons. You’ll find them very informative and interesting.

All the best.

I was prescribed atorvastatin and clopidogrel after a stroke 5 years before my mpn diagnosis. The stroke left me with slight balance problems before starting any drugs. I now also take 15mg ruxolitinib twice a day. I get lots of joint pain but who knows what causes that.

I was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy over 10 years ago and was prescribed low dose statin. I had a suspected TIA 4 years ago and was prescribed Clopidogrel. I was diagnosed PV 14 months ago taking Hydroxycarbamide. I don't seem to have any adverse effects. I do go to the gym 3 times a week and go to Pilates once a week

anyone on statins must take CoQ10in order to keep the body functioning properly. This helps muscles including the heart muscle every organ brain skin.etc. Statins are famous for depleting this from the body and the breakdown come slow slowly so it’s not noticed. Please inform yourselves especially through drugs.com.

I am considering starting statins as they seem to be suggested for over 60s with PV. My cholesterol is not high, but I understand statins can also act as an inti inflammatory.

Hi, I take Atorvastatin, along with Amlodipine, Hydrochlorothiazide, Losartan and half full aspirin. I also take 1000mg Hydroxyurea daily. I have balance issues due to a stroke 15 years ago (right side was affected). In January it will be 3 years PV.

There was a fantastic Cardio-Oncologist speaker at the recent MPN Leeds Patient forum. He talked about using the usual 'Q' risk figures for those with MPN, in short, he said the Q risk score as it is does not take into consideration the additional risk and that a more realistic guide for us would be to take our Q risk score and double it. I will be starting Statins very soon.
