My heamo prescribed for me Pegasy 135mcg, he said dosage is same like roteferon 3UI, one weakly.Last year I was on only 3ui roteferon weakly , but stopped becouse of bad side effect . In last 12 month I have 9 venosection becouse my hct was 48 , platets always stable all 12 month 420 , rbc5,6, wbc to stable 6 . If I going on this hight dosage of Pegasy I scare dropping maybe too much my platets and wbc. Problem is rbc and hct is not stable with venosection . I don't beleive roteferon 3UI and Pegasy 135 mcg is same.We tray with Pegasy have less venosection .I thing 9 venosection is too much for 12 month , makes me anemic, fatigue , low iron and ferritin . Please advice?

From what I understand, you should be able to tolerate Pegasys better. Your haematologist should be able to check your platelets and WBC don’t go too low. I was also on 135 mcg weekly for s while before reducing the dosage to 135mcg every two weeks. Like you I didn’t fare well on frequent venesections and am glad that Pegasys is keeping my blood counts under control. Hope it works out well for you.

What a dreadful time you have been having.

When I was first put on Pegasys (June this year) I requested, having done a lot of research and based on my body's disgust at having chemicals put into it, that my dose should be 45mcg only. I was told that 90mcg was the lowest I could have but I directed him to Health Unlocked and MPN Voice, where I had read otherwise.

My platelets improved in 3 weeks and they are now in normal range. Yes,I have a lot of the side effects included on the leaflet but didn't read about those until I suffered them and only the, to see if the symptom was actually a side effect of the drug. Now, I can tolerate those side effects a little better but am content with the effectiveness of Pegasys.

Is there a chance you could try a lower dose? All the best. I hope you soon feel a lot better. Penelope

I agree with Penelope - see if you can try a lower dose of Pegasys first.

I have ET and started on 45mcg then 90 weekly - after 3 years I’ve reduced to a maintenance dose of 45mcg every 4 weeks, which keeps my counts under control.

Of course we’re all different but as with any drug it’s good to try and use the lowest effective dose.

Good luck

Andy
