My wife has had shunts in her liver and the last few months he breath has become really bad. It appears she has Fetor hepaticus and probably Hepatic Encephalopathy. She is very embarrassed by her breath and I want her to get tested for these conditions. Has anyone had/got it and can advise me what I should do and if it is manageable and if so what should she be eating/taking to combat it?

The British Liver Trust have information regarding HE. It might be a good idea for your wife to be reviewed by the doctor looking after her liver problem they should be used to seeing patients with HE and offer the best advice on how to treat it
