Massage with ET CALR
Hi Mary, hope you are doing OK, I have had a couple of massages that have been done with crystals, mine was done with amethyst, and amethyst oil it was so relaxing I fell asleep, loved it, and funny thing was I had my hospital appointment a few days later and everything was good, but do check with your Haemotologist, or chemo nurse, if you are worried think he will say go for it, mine was not concerned at all.

Hi
I have ET jak2 + and was told I could only have a light massage. I think the risk of bleeding or blood clots is the problem. I like deep tissue massage so I was disappointed. Ask your doc though.

Hi Garden987, go get that massage and enjoy. We are cancer patients and as such, some hospitals offer alternative therapy. I know Doncaster has an Aurora Centre and Guy’s hospital have something similar. They are I believe charity run. So thank you to those concerned who raise money for this service. I often have a massage after a long haul flight.
My local centre also offers 3 treatments to carers too. I did use this service whilst my husband underwent chemo. 6 years ago. Knowing someone cares helps.
Hi Mary. Gentle massage should be fine. I work at a leading world class hospital and we perform massage on patients with cancer and on chemotherapy.
It is always performed gently.
Hi Mary,
I had a much needed light massage for my shoulder when recovering from shoulder surgery at a time when my platelets were in the 600s and had no problems at all. If you have had recent trouble with clots, bruising or bleeding I think you should ask a doctor first, but otherwise I suspect you will the massage very beneficial if it is gentle. Pxx
I have PV with high platelets and Jak2. It never occurred to me that I couldn’t have a massage or any beauty treatment (not that I get the chance very often - though I’m working on it!) Apparently some therapists are wary. I have a masseuse friend who works regularly in a hospice and cancer centre to treat me. And I recently went to a Spa place where I had to complete a medical form and they didn’t baulk. I imagine if you are prone to bleeding and bruising very easily then a massage might be problematic. Otherwise, enjoy!
Hey Mary...
I also the CALR (Type2) mutation, and I believe that massages are essential therapy. I also have one of those very useful massage chairs, however, I am very much still open to the prospect of a caring partner replacing my chair someday soon...
Massages are wonderful, and unless you have some extra special reason why not, I would just say enjoy...
Best wishes
Steve

Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply. Can I use this to thank everyone who took the time to respond. Because of bruising and some nose bleeds have decided against st massage. Think reflexology is better for me. Love the sound of the chair though. Take care of yourselves everyone. Have tummy bug so have to dash to the loo. Thank you all again. Mary
Didn't see this months ago, but I have been going to have massages for year now. I was diagnosed with ET back in 2012, CALR+ only just recently. I'm still going for a deep massage every 3 weeks and all is well. I've been playing real football aka soccer for 40 years and now I'm in tournaments in women's 60+. Massages help with circulation, so I personally feel that's a great benefit.
