Surgery: anyone had surgery with polycythanemia - MPN Voice
Surgery
Yes, I have but I’m Jak 2 negative, Polycythaemia cause unknown so you may need different checks to me. I just made sure my surgeon knew about it and he contacted my haematologist and GP. I had no problems with the surgery.
thank u very much for ur reply I am waiting for hip replacyment really worried about blood clots it is a big risk
I have PV and just had a hernia operation. Did not have any problem related to PV. Also before I was diagnosed with PV I also had a hip replacement. I suspect that might have brought on the PV but have no proof.
thanks for letting me know I will let u know when I have surgery done
Yes, gallbladder removal, no issues, as long as your surgeon liaise with your haematology consultant, they stopped aspirin a few days before and after. Hope it goes well.
thank u for letting me know
yes, several times. Just needs careful liason with haems and checking of counts.
thank u for replying I have seen my haem and he has been in touch with suergon suergon asked him what preacautions would he need to take I think he said I would need blood thinking before and after surgery and I would need to start back on plavix within two days he did not mention about the checking of counts do u think I would need to check up on this thank u
I'm sure they will automatically check your blood counts, it sounds like it is all under control. Good luck when it happens.
Yes, had hip replacement op last June - all OK. Good luck with yours, when are you having it?
had pre op last week waiting for date but suergons secretary said it would be about 3 weeks thank u for replying back I will let u know when I have opp
Needed some minor surgery and investigations just after diagnosed with PV (had been diagnosed with ET some years before). Haem apparently gave surgeon a proper talking to(!). Treated as if having major surgery with regards to risk of clots /bleeding and surgery curtailed to very limited time under anaesthetic. Aspirin stopped week before. Was told that could only have major (elective) surgery once bloods under control and that would take six or so weeks with (presumably quite aggressive) drug treatment. Fortunately didn’t need to follow that route. Just frustrated that surgeon couldn’t complete her job! (Irritating for me rather than life threatening.)
thanks for letting me know I wil let u know how the surgery goes
Hi, had a new knee last year. Haem and ortho surgeon spoke to one another beforehand and bloods checked on the morning of surgery. Had several other ortho ops with no problems.
Good luck, kind regards Aime xx
Hi Aime thanks for letting me know
Hi. I had an emergency appendectomy two years ago. I had the surgeon call my hem prior to the surgery. I was assigned a hem at the hospital , taken off aspirin and given a prescription blood thinner for 10 days.
The surgery went well. Good luck to you. Lu
Hi Lu thank u very much for telling me I will let u know how I get on with surgery in a few weeks time
I've had two surgeries with ET. I was monitored very closely during and after the surgeries and my surgeon contacted my Haemo prior to each surgery.
thanks for replying I will let u know how I get on when I have surgery thank u
