Fatigue - stress and negative energy from others

I wonder if any of you find your fatigue is exacerbated by being with people who are negative and off-load to you and stress other than dealing with our MPN. I have found I tire very quickly when in contact with these people. I know stress doesn't help fatigue but I wondered if any of you have a similar problem. Mary

Hi Mary, yes some people are very draining! I used to be an alternative therapist and we used to call these clients 'qi vampires'! One simple way of protecting yourself is to imagine you are zipping up the front of your body, just an inch or so above your skin, from pubic bone to head, so your energy remains intact. Otherwise if you know you're entering a draining situation just imagine yourself sealed in a golden egg of protection so any negativity bounces straight off of you! Play a little with your imagination and find something that works for you! Good luck!

So true Christine, in the States we refer to people like that as “energy vampires “, because they can suck the life right out of you leaving you drained and exhausted emotionally and physically.

Your suggestion of imagining a physical boundary protecting yourself is a great one. I remember when I lived in an all girl dorm the 1st yr of university, my Mom suggested I do just that. There was just so much angst in the energy that she said to stay focused and not absorb it.

I have found over the years that I’ve cut these type people from my life. To much real stress to deal with people that create and thrive on drama.

Haha, sorry people but I find the opposite. I'm . I am Cal r ET. I find fatigue and stress extremely dibilitating I lose 1 day a week to sofa/bed rest but when I hear about other people's woes I realise that I'm not the only one with problems. Maybe it's because I'm never in pain with my ET just fatigued and frustrated when I don't have energy to cope with situations.

I do believe that is the case - my fatigue and anxiety shoot up when I come across that sort of person. It feels like they are draining what’s left of me. All I do is turn around and walk away - even if it’s my other half!

Your suggestion, Christine, is great - next time the situation arrives (most mornings!) I’ll zip up and remain in my golden egg until it’s safe to emerge!

Hi Mary, these people are also called toxic because of the damage they do to you emotionally & physically and most experts recommend staying away from these people if it's an option. And yes, stress has a big effect on fatigue, your immune system, heart, etc. etc. I hope you can avoid them. Katie

Hi Katie. You are absolutely right about walking away from toxic people. The problem is my two sons-laws who are about as negative as anyone can be - difficult to walk away from them because it would hurt my daughters. Also there seems to be a sign on my head saying "offload"band without being cruel don't know what to do. Everybody needs help but right now I am totally depleted health wise so am finding it difficult. Thanks for your replying. Mary

Oh so true!

I was just out of hospital after two weeks on the cardiac ward with newly diagnosed, unstable angina.

I had lost two stone and was very wobbly.

A church visitor came when I was on my own and spent an hour telling me all about her daughter's disasterous marriage to a bully. When she had talked herself out she left.

I felt so much worse after her visit I thought I was going to die!
