Hi, Marybe, I can't use any of the anti inflammatory gels or take any kind of anti inflammatory tablets because my stomach hates them and even with stomach tablets, I still end up with a raw, aching, horrible stomach for about 10 days so it's not worth it for me.

It's maybe better to check first with some of your medics to make sure it won't disagree with any other meds you are on. I didn't realise how strong these gels are and they obviously can affect other parts of your body which I didn't know either. Good luck and hope you get help with your joint pain.

Kindest regards Aime xx😺😺

Thank you Aimee. It's my husband who has the pains - he has PV. His stomach is also a bit dodgy so the gels are probably not for him either. He has a GP appointment on Tuesday so he can ask for more info. Thanks again.

Hi, if you are using aspirin you are not to supposed to use it. An occasional use is probably ok. But rest the joint!!!

Take care, enjoy your Easter.

Thank you for that. My husband Angus is on daily Aspirin for the PV so your advice is very helpful. It's his elbows that are aching most at the moment. He's been doing a fair bit of driving so I'll persuade him to cut down. Thank you again and all the best to you. X

I use Voltarol gel occasionally despite also being on aspirin and have never had any problems. I prefer the idea of applying the NSAID directly to the joint (normally knees for me!) rather than taking it orally and risking gastric issues. Worth checking with your doctor if you have any concerns, though I never have..!

I have PV and om aspirin. I had a trapped nerve in my neck late last year and my GP gave me co codamol and said it was ok for me to use Voltarol gel. My biggest problem was I'm asthmatic and it says not to be used unless you've spoken to a doctor. I spoke to our local pharmacist and he said as the doctor had recommend it then try a very small amount to see how I got on as most of the drug will go into the joint with a tiny amount entering the system. I was fine and it eased the pain. I also used a Teens machine, which is drug free.

Thank you for that - really good advice. I used a tens machine years ago when I was in labour! Must try to get hold of one for hubby now!

Boots do a variety of units. The one I got just sticks over the problem area with no wires or having boxes to adjust. Batteries and pads didn't last as long as I thought they would but then again I rarely took it off as it killed the pain.

HI Marybell, I was prescribed it by my Doc and regularly use it as well as taking HU and baby aspirin. No new problems other than being old.

Thank you for your response. It's so good to hear from others with the same concerns. Really supportive.

Hi, I use Dragon Balm or Tiger Balm often for pain. They're both topical and applied to your skin. Neither has a blood thinner like aspirin in it. But be sure to see if it's the staining version. There's a stronger one called Electric Balm but you have to be more careful with this one. Good Luck. Katie

I use Absorbine horse linament gel. I get it from the feed store. It is good for joint pain. Helps my knees tremendously.
