FATIGUE

Hi all,. Separate from my fatigue that's related to heat, I seem to have it other times for no apparent reason. So for the past 7 days I've been consuming extra protein from protein powder. So far so good. Will let you know if my luck continues. Does anyone else have successful ideas? Katie

Do you know about Mindfulness Meditation? It's worth finding out about it. It isn't designed to ease the tiredness but I have discovered that practising it helps me accept times of sudden and unexpected tiredness. More importantly I understand a bit better that not a great deal can be done about this level of fatigue except to learn to manage it and be a bit less annoyed by it - until a better day turns up!

Good suggestion Eadaoin, , a lady regularly attends our Support Group in Blackpool (I haven't been for a year mind) and she runs classes in meditation techniques including mindfulness. Because it puts you in a state of calm it may indeed help your fatigue level by recharging your battery. . .,I and the other group members found it very therapeutic. I think it helps to have an 'expert' or experienced bod to guide you through it. I'm not sure I could achieve the same result doing it myself.

Hi Katie, , tis a fact that fatigue is one of the major symptoms of our MPNs and I think what has come through the forum in last couple yrs is the benefit of regular gentle exercise and diet . Beyond that I'm not sure . Chris

Thank you folks for your helpful suggestions. I must admit I could and should be getting more exercise and I know the mindfulness relaxation is also supposed to boost your immune system as well as reduce your stress. I guess I'm too lazy to have been doing those things but given your suggestions I'll try and get better!! I've heard about Vitamin B12 and will ask my doc about that. Katie

Hi Katie - to help with my fatigue I take Vitamin D Complex. I also heard a tip from the Mayo Clinic in the US, they recommend that we stay well hydrated, drinking 2 litres to 2.5 litres per day on top of smoothies and juices. They say that hydration assists our blood flow (amongst other things) and this helps push oxygen through out system and helps with fatigue. They also recommend regular gentle exercise - walking, swimming etc.

I bought a pedometer and walk each day and the hydration has helped me quite a lot. I use a Water App to remind me through the day to drink as its easy to forget when you are doing something else. I hope this helps

Thanks. I take D3 but it sounds like yours has other types of D. Do you remember where you heard about it? How much do you take? Katie
