I was offered some pomelo by a neighbour who was peeling one but declined as it looked very like grapefruit and I take ruxolitinib. Does anyone know if this fruit should be avoided in the same way as grapefruit or grapefruit juice?

Pomelo and drug metabolism
Hi
Had never heard of it, but on wiki it says grapefruits are believed to be a hybrid of this fruit and oranges, so I would probably give it a miss.

Hi Skodaguy Happy New Year my friend. Here is a quote from wisegeek re Pomelo and drug interaction ] -
'The fruit’s relationship to the grapefruit is interesting trivia for most people, but can also have serious medical consequences for anyone taking prescription drugs that have negative interactions with grapefruit. Drug manufacturers in countries where pomelos are not common tend to list only grapefruit as a food to avoid, though the larger Asian relative is usually just as dangerous. Interactions are most common in medications containing carbamazepine, which is used to treat seizures and manic depression, however anyone who is concerned about a possible negative effect with any medication should talk to a medical professional before eating pomelo or drinking its juice.'
i think you are wise to give it a miss. To be honest to be on the safe side I avoid all fruits LOL. Actually I miss ladling the Seville marmalade on my thickly buttered toast the most.
Cheers Buddy
You are such a bad influence !! No fruit ..where does your vitamin C come from ? ..got another cold ? Or a sore chest ? ...tut ,,tut,,tut,,
Not really a bad influence Twinkly coz I find adults make their own minds up about their dietary needs. Ive just never been a fan of fruit - Funnily enough i like fruit gums though - So I take vitamin supplements to fill the gap.
Mind you I do encourage my grandkids to eat fruit and veg instead of too many sweeties which I think is important. . Thanks for your concern. Love JR
