Anyone had any implants before MPD

Anyone had implants or large amount of X-rays before MPD.

Or exposure to organic chemicals such as Benzene?

No not really...a few xrays when I was a kid...mind you , I think the radiation is less nowadays then it was when I was young.

I had lots of exposure to formaldehyde, and also the noxious gas formed by mixing formaldehyde with condies crystals. I was working on a poultry farm at the time and my haem thought I had been exposed to chemicals which may have caused the ET. Don't know if one can be certain of that.

Yes I was exposed to large quantities of diesel/petroleum fluids the unburnt products of which would have been absorbed through the skin and to atomised product would have entered orally. I was also exposed daily to the burning of these products and ingesting the smoke produced in large amounts. Benzene being one of the chemicals I believe has caused my ET - Why?

Thank you Yorkie1 for taking the time to reply. I hope to put together a questionnaire which I will post here and other places to try to gather information from the MPD population to determine some of the causes of our disease.

I have a Business Intelligence/Data analysis background and might as well put it to good use.

Glad to hear that Sschram. I am in the process of trying to link with a student at Warwick Uni to do a doctorate into cancers in Firefighters. My intention is to go through Government to look into this. I know of other Instructors doing the same as I did at the Fire Service College who have contracted similar cancers to mine. I had breast reconstruction requiring a silicone implant and radio-therapy following breast cancer 20 years ago. My PV was only identified through a routine blood test last year so I don't know if there is any connection. I'm virtually symptomless and am treated only by venesection when my PCV is above 0.45. Like most sufferers I don't know how long I'd had raised PCV and feel very fortunate that my condition is so mild in comparison with most MPD sufferers.

Had a lot of exposure to both benzene and toluene both at school and at uni. No idea if it is significant. Also was exposed to radioactive testosterone whilst doing a physiology degree. Now on 3rd MPD . Gone from PV to MF and CML which is currently dormant.

Not sure if it related but I have Titanium implants in my face. I was treated with Radio Iodine for an over active thyroid. The last building I worked in contained asbestos - but it was well contained.

No implants but a lot of exposure to carcinogen in the form of diesel exhaust during last 8 years of my working life before retiring. I now have PV - possible connection .....?

Kevin yes there probably is but difficult through UK courts to prove that it is an Industrial Injury or that the diesel has caused the disease. I have been down both routes and come to a dead end as the Toxicologists will not go to court at this stage to say Benzene caused it because as you see on this forum people who haven't been so exposed also get it. However once it moves into MF or AML then they will happily take it on as these two problems can be linked easier to the chemicals

My husband was a time served welder witnessing xrays and pipe bombings.

He's also worked in Kazakhstan which is full of radiation!

We've often wondered if this pv has developed due to his exposure of radiation.
