Hi

I would make an appointment to see your GP today. I have asthma and am fortunate its well contolled, but the warm weather has no doubt got all sorts of pollens and what have you flying around in the air, plus added polution.

It might be a case of increasing your steroid inhaler dosage or something like that.

Make sure he/she reads all the information relating to your PV too just incase any of the drugs can affect asthma, i know stuff like ibuprofen does so its possible lots of others do.

Asthma is another one of those conditons the majority of people dont understand, i sympathise with you as when you are struggling for breath it can make life quiet miserable.

Good luck

Paul

Hi Inca , I have been having similar problem with warm dry air and in particular when the temp is very high. I am a keen golfer and unfortunately I have had to abandon a couple of games due to the heat. I have recently been diagnosed with asthma, but still have some scans and allergy test to do. I am now on a steroid inhaler, feel a lot better , but still a have a little problem with intense heat. I have ET and 3 years ago had a mild MI, otherwise health has been excellent. I have had the summer asthma thing over the last 3 years, also thinking ET may have been a contributor to my MI, only diagnosed ET last year.

Hi Joe1have been trying to reply to you but having problems will try later again,Inca

No Problem Inca, Not being an expert, but I think it is the asthma that is causing our problems and not your PV or my ET. The asthma clinic should be able to get you onto the right meds, but of course the meds don't always give the relief that you want. The cool fresh air is on the one. Regards

Joe

Hi Joe,I think mine is worse since PV diagnosis 4years ago.Yes ,the fatigue makes breathing worse, the heat definitely,I am advised by my Drs to keep cool always, and keep up exercise ,which I do,dogs and horses featuring strongly with our family, loads of fresh air too,all my life spent in the countryside,UK&Fr.Had MRI scans,x-rays etc,all are clear ,so is it meds ,is it stress of coping with PV, steroid preventers changed and re changed!!!!Hope you progress well with your tests, thankyou for your mails, good to know I'm not the only asthmatic with an MPD.Best wishes, get back to golf soon, autumn is nearly here, fresher and healthier!

Hi

The fact that fatigue is common when you have an MPN could conribute easily to asthma im sure of it.

Also, when did you last have your blood counts done?

I agree absolutely Paul, tho my asthma has always been well controlled ,my life active, breeding and competing at top level with our horses, working proffesionally as sculptor, artist, designer, no problems other than odd chest infections.Diagnosis of PV4years ago was a life changing shock. The last 2 summers have seen my breathing become worse,I keep up exercise, walking our2 large German Shepherds, set off really struggling to breathe, but usually by the time I get going it improves,I get back tired but recover enough to work in studio but not as I used to.afternoon sees me having to rest, very frustrating!!!!The heat,is exhausting here,SWFr,and causes difficulty for breathing.I have blood tests every 4 weeks since June hematocrite has risen to 54 from usual 40-45 ,medsHydrea, aspirin, isoptine.Medicine General is sure both are linked to heat and humidity, see consultant next month. So,watch this space!!sorry for long missive, keep well and thanks for your input, much appreciated.Inca

Thankyou,Maz,for your reply.I did see my GP yesterday, she gave me a thorough examination,my chest is clear! The temperatures here are 30'splus some days and as I write thunder is rumbling around.G P is sure that is not good for any one with chesty probs. Also my hematocrite has risen to 54&Hydrea increased, which happened last summer during a very hot spell...I was interested to know if others had similar experiences...is it connected to PV and other MPD's?Do wish the medical people could give more answers. You and your site are such a life line. Thanks again Maz,Hope you keep well,I need to get to one of the forums, when next in UK.

Hi Inca, well that's good to hear that you have been checked over, it can't be very nice for you with this hot weather. I am not sure about any connection but I am sure other people on here will share their experiences with you. I am keeping very well thank you, and yes, you must come to a forum, it will be lovely to see you. Take care, Maz x

Diagnosed with summer asthma for first time ever last year, at 38. I really struggle with hot and humid conditions, much more in recent years. I took my daughter for swimming lesson last weekend and almost had to leave the viewing area because the overwhelming heat was making me feel ill!

Forgot to say that I have ET.

Hi RubyRubyRuby,so sorry you are suffering with breathing as well as ET.I know only too well the awful feeling of having to get out of somewhere for air and the fear of actually passing out.My asthma has always been well controlled apart from a few blips.Had a very active life, that is until P V was diagnosed. Now I have many bad days with breathing, esp the hot and humid weather this summer where I am at present in S W France 34plus degrees some days just knocks me out.I notice after a storm when air clears I breathe again.I am sure our blood problems affects our breathing,I have had scans, lungs are OK,so where to go from there.......I still struggle forbreath!!!!!Thankyou for your mail ,Hope you improve, you are not alone,I attended an asthma clinic in UK ,if you can do that they are more help than GP's very best to you Inca

I too have had asthma problems as a child and occasionally throughout my life ,the one thing I noticed in your medications ,is aspirin . I just wanted to say ,I was given clopitorol

Instead of aspirin .as a blood thinner , it helped me ,I now realise I cannot take aspirin at all. Just a thought for you to mention to your doctor ,, Wish you well . Twinkly ...
