Nail problems .
Hello Holly, Yes I have fungal nail problem but my toe nails not my finger nails. My finger nails suffer from splitting and I used to have nice nails but now they are forever short. On Hydroxy and aspirin and have PRV. Oh the joys of life! Keep well, I suppose if that's all we have to complain about we are doing well, Sandra
yes very true Sandra , yes i had toe last year ,but dont like it on finger naiks i like to wear nail varnish at least with feet in winter there hidden haha you take care
My nails have got very brittle no fungal infections- yet. Good excuse for a manicure and pamper! ๐๐
Good idea lizzie ๐
Yes Holly, on a couple of toe nails eeeeyuk!! My finger nails are dire at the mo with vertical ridges, splitting and generally looking like they belong to a 10 year old boy who climbs a lot of trees!! Manicure and pedicure for me too before Crimbo. Because I'm worth it! Much love, Poll xx
Hi Polly yes ditto me too thank you keep well my friend best wishes Holly x
My big toenails look a little yellow, whether it is due to age, fungal infection or the Hydroxy.
I am using canesten 1% (clotrimazol) cream rubbed in well, regularly over winter to see if they emerge pink and healthy in Spring. It is used for athletes foot fungus and those areas that get red and rashly in hot weather.
It is readily available and inexpensive.
My finger nails are thin and break easily, and have got wider and more ridged. New Year's Resolution- to use the lovely hand cream every night.
The fugal nail treatment is ยฃ20 ! It takes around 4 month to clear up i will try canestetan good idea thank you
I am on HU and asprin, and now have nails which split easily on my hands with a fungus on toe nails. I am wondering if the state of my toe nails ( they split easily and are v brittle) makes it easy for the fungus to invade.
Hello Holly
Like Sandra, I suffer with splitting nails, but I have not experienced any nail fungal issues. My nails are like paper and a bit "bendy" at times. I take silica for my hair and nails and this seems to make them stronger. I do keep them very short now as they feel horrible when they grow.

Angela
Hi Angela , thank you yes mine bendy etc and i keep short where do you get silica from ? im in the Uk best wishes Holly
Hello Holly
Holland & Barrett or Amazon. I buy mine from H&B. I take 1000mgs one a day. I've been taking these for about 5 years. It works wonders on your hair too. They take a while to get into your system but you will notice a difference.
Regards
Angela
ok thats great thanks , just a thought did you check with hospital there ok to take , only i got different ones and my dr didnt advise mt to take the full dose i stopped altogeter in the end these were 4 a day x
I took both my Silica and Glucosamin tablets to my consultant and he confirmed they were fine for me to take along with all my other tablets. I'm on 3x 500mgs hydroxcycarbamide a day. x
Great. much apprecated for your reply ,take care x
Hello Holly, I have had nail fungus on my toes, but thankfully not on my fingers. Eventually I went to the doctors and they gave me a course of tablets that worked quickly and well. This was about 3 months before I went on to Ruxolitinib for MF. When I was being assessed for the Rux' the Consultant told me I would have to stop the nail treatment. Fortunately I was at the end of the nail course and the toes were 'clean'. However it is making a comeback and I shall have to talk it over with the haematologist when I go to clinic in an couple weeks time. I also had ripples on my thumb nails but the GP told me it was because I was anaemic, which is how the haematologist likes me to be.
For years I could have used another drug, but my GP told me not to because it increased the blood levels so would have been fighting the hydroxy'.
Best seasonal wishes to everyone. I should be in Austria skiing over the week of Christmas. Lucky me.
Michael

Not nails for me. Tho they are brittle and unsightly.I was in U K recently and after a flooded venue where I exhibited,I had a very sore throat .Visit to Doctor,he confirmed it to be 'thrush',said that more than likely taking Hydrea ,I would not have resistance to the bad conditions of flooding and the bugs associated with such conditions, bacterial infection now on chest.......great stuff!!! What next....toad stools on head ?
