The 55th American Society of Hematology (ASH) December 2013 meeting was a great success and there were some really important updates for MPNs. I listened avidly to the video on PRV. Trouble is the knowledge is not always portrayed as though all haemetologists think the same way. For instance my haem clearly said hydroxurea would not be suitable for me as red cells are my main concern and hyroxy does not lower red cell count - not what is said on the video. I see my haem for the second time in six months in February and she has said after that she will see me annually. There is nobody that I can speak to at my monthly blood test visits as they are always so busy and anyway they don't seem to know much about PRV. It is why this site is so helpful and also the newsletter where at least new drugs are talked about because it certainly won't be at my clinic. I am treated with venesection and aspirin.
Maybe someone else got more out of the video than I did so I will wait with interest.
I was very encouraged by the remarks from the prof at the mayo clinic ,he told of the ongoing trials for new drugs ,I'm lucky to be on the Majic trial ,to control my PV..the wonderful added benefit is my rumatics have also been favour ably reacting to the drug ruxolitinib ,I have been taking for 4 months with a blood thinning pill,my prof green ,is better than Santa ,he was beaming as he gave me my best present this week ,my results excellent again no venesection ,I was having them every 4 weeks on hYdroxycarbamide ,the difference is very noticable ,my skin is well ,my energy is good ,also my digestion is better,,,,,, try to keep an open mind ,be positive ,,our future is good if we have these doctors and team nurses working on our behalf,,,things can only improve ,,
